At RAFT, we believe every student deserves access to engaging, hands-on STEAM learning experiences. Our volunteers play a vital role in making that possible by helping prepare the educational materials used in classrooms throughout the Bay Area.


We're looking for a highly organized, relationship-driven Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator who enjoys bringing people together, creating exceptional volunteer experiences, and supporting the behind-the-scenes operations that help our mission thrive.


In this role, you'll welcome and lead volunteer groups, build relationships with community partners, help recruit volunteers, and ensure every volunteer leaves feeling valued and inspired. You'll also support inventory, purchasing, and production planning to ensure volunteer events have the materials needed to succeed.


This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about nonprofit work, community engagement, volunteer management, and creating meaningful experiences while balancing people-focused work with operational excellence.

What You'll Do

Volunteer & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers during onsite and offsite events.
  • Welcome volunteers and create an engaging, organized, and meaningful volunteer experience.
  • Partner with the Volunteer & Event Coordinator to plan volunteer activities and communications.
  • Lead volunteer orientations and provide guidance throughout volunteer events.
  • Recruit new volunteers through community outreach, nonprofit partnerships, local organizations, and online platforms.
  • Build relationships that encourage volunteers to return and become long-term supporters of RAFT.
  • Set up and break down volunteer workstations while ensuring projects and materials are ready for each event.
  • Coordinate materials needed for volunteer kit production.


Behind-the-Scenes Operations

Help ensure our volunteer events and STEAM kit production run smoothly by:

  • Supporting purchasing, inventory management, and production planning using NetSuite.
  • Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) for RAFT's STEAM learning kits.
  • Preparing purchase orders and working with suppliers.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and investigating discrepancies.
  • Performing kit builds and inventory transactions in NetSuite.
  • Supporting retail operations by processing Point of Sale transactions when needed.


What We’re Looking For

  • Two or more years of experience in volunteer management, nonprofit organizations, community engagement, education, event coordination, or a related field.
  • A passion for serving others and creating meaningful volunteer experiences.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience coordinating events, volunteer programs, or community activities.
  • Comfort learning technology, inventory systems, or ERP platforms such as NetSuite.
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory management, or operations is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work on weekends
