Leave and Disability Specialist

The Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. is seeking a Leave and Disability Specialist to support the administration of employee leave programs and disability benefits. This role is responsible for managing leave cases, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and providing a positive employee experience throughout the leave lifecycle. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.

Overview:

 

The Leave and Disability Specialist is responsible for administering and managing leave programs, including FMLA, short-term disability, ADA accommodations, and other company-sponsored leave policies. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while partnering with employees, managers, and internal stakeholders to provide guidance and support. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

A Day in the Life:

  • Administer end-to-end leave of absence programs, including FMLA, disability, and ADA accommodations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers throughout the leave process
  • Review and determine eligibility for leave requests in accordance with laws and company policies
  • Track and manage leave cases, ensuring accurate documentation and timely follow-up
  • Coordinate return-to-work processes, including accommodations and transitional work arrangements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave and disability regulations
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready documentation
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to ensure claim accuracy and compliance
  • Communicate leave policies, procedures, and expectations clearly to employees and leaders
  • Provide guidance on leave options, benefits continuation, and documentation requirements
  • Support employees through complex or escalated leave situations
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support reporting on leave trends
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll, and Benefits to ensure alignment across processes
  • Perform other leave and HR-related duties as assigned

     

      

    Qualifications & Skills:

     

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in leave administration, disability management, or HR
  • Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and disability processes
  • Experience managing end-to-end leave cases
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with leave management systems or third-party administrators preferred
  • Knowledge of multi-state leave laws preferred
  • SHRM or related certification preferred
