The Opportunity

We're seeking a dynamic Chief Development Officer to join our executive leadership team. As CDO, you'll lead all aspects of our fundraising strategy—from our annual campaign and major gifts to women's philanthropy and planned giving. This is a unique opportunity to shape the philanthropic future of Portland's Jewish community while building meaningful relationships with donors who share our values and vision.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies across annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and endowment development
  • Partner with CEO and leadership to set goals, metrics, and strategic direction
  • Personally cultivate and solicit major donor portfolios
  • Identify new revenue streams and growth opportunities
Drive Campaign Success
  • Oversee all aspects of the annual campaign and specialized divisions including Lions ($5,000+ women's campaign)
  • Coordinate campaign themes, events, and communications
  • Recruit, train, and support campaign volunteers and leadership
  • Manage donor engagement from cultivation through stewardship
Champion Women’s Philanthropy
  • Lead signature events like IMPACT and women's giving initiatives
  • Develop recognition strategies for major women donors
  • Build programs that engage and inspire women philanthropists at all levels
Build & Lead Team
  • Mentor and develop the development team
  • Oversee department operations, systems, and budget
  • Work closely with board members and volunteer leaders
  • Represent Federation as an ambassador throughout the community
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
  • 5–7+ years progressive fundraising experience, preferably in Jewish communal or faith-based settings
  • Proven success securing major gifts and leading campaigns
Skills & Qualities
  • Passionate about Jewish community with deep knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and Israel
  • Exceptional relationship builder with superior interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinker who excels at execution
  • Strong leader who motivates and mentors teams
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable soliciting donors and working with volunteer leaders
  • Proficient with donor databases/CRM systems and Microsoft Office
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and insurance
  • Ability to travel occasionally for professional development
