Job description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Owens Center Assistant Manager and the Volunteer Manager, the Customer Service & Volunteer Intern will be responsible for the following:

Owens Ice Center:

  • Assist the front desk staff with customer service functions such as answering phones, greeting guests at the facility, and other operational tasks on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons/early evenings.
  • Assist in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all designated areas.
  • Assist with concession operations as needed.
  • Assist with assigned duties related to the skating program.
  • Follow all Peoria Park District rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the District's safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Volunteer Department:

  • Lead and supervise the special event volunteers at assigned Peoria Park District events and facilities. There will be a heavy focus on Peoria Zoo's "Zootober" event series on Fridays in October starting at 3:30pm.
  • Volunteer recruitment and administrative office duties will also be included.
  • As part of the internship program, all interns will assist in several Peoria Park District events, as assigned.
  • Follow all Peoria Park District rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the District's safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Education: Current active college undergraduate student (Sept 2026 - Dec 2026). This internship program is funded through June 2027 due to a grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and available to college undergraduate-aged individuals up to 20 hours per week; 10 hours at Owens Ice Center and 10 hours at Noble Center with Volunteer Department.

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Ability to focus on detail-oriented tasks.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Some familiarity with Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, safe, and equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
