Job Summary
Under general supervision and in conjunction with the goals and vision of the Director of Athletics, develops and directs an athletic communications program that successfully promotes ASU athletics, coaches and athletes in all appropriate venues and that increases both public participation in and local, state and national recognition of Ram and Rambelle athletics. Supervision of the athletic communications assistants, graduate-assistant, student-assistant and any voluntary assistants that work in the Office of Athletic Communications. Coordinate and direct to ensure proper home event coverage with regards to all aspects of athletic communications.
Essential Duties
  1. Promotes ASU athletes, coaches and sports through a variety of media, advertising, promotional, public relations and marketing strategies. Assists with monitoring and updating angelosports.com website with timely and accurate information, including game accounts, features, announcements and news.
  2. Compiles statistical and historical information on individual athletes and teams; prepares information and reports for the NCAA and LSC. Directs and oversees sports media relation strategies and manages/directs Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and graduate / student assistants.
  3. Responsible ensuring a successful strategy and production with regards to streaming of ASU Athletic events. Promotes positive media relations with local, state and national news organizations and coordinates coach and student-athlete appearances with media.
  4. Assists with game management, including set up, statistical reporting to meet NCAA and LSC requirements, including organization and coordination of press box and media area activities. Provides data and metrics with regards to streaming viewership and social media usage.
  5. Responsible for complying with all NCAA, LSC, Angelo State University, and Texas Tech University System policies, rules, and regulations. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
  • Communications, journalism, and Web, and news and feature writing.
  • Print, broadcast, and web communication principles and strategies, including streaming of live events.
  • Sports and athletic programs, including basic sports statistical applications.
  • Marketing, advertising, public relations, and promotional principles and strategies.

Skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and related software.
  • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication.

Abilities
  • Promote ASU athletics through multiple media, marketing, advertising, public relations, and promotional strategies.
  • Work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including media representatives, coaches, faculty, student-athletes, and others.
  • Manage media staff and activities in compliance with university policies, procedures, and practices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in sports information, communications, marketing, or public relations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Experience in sports marketing.
  • Experience serving as the primary or secondary communications contact for football.

Physical Requirements
This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, and intermittent standing, walking, reaching, bending and grasping. Basic manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are also necessary. Incumbent works both in and outdoors, and has periodic exposure to dust, pollen, heat, cold, and inclement weather.
