Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The MA/MS Therapist will provide onsite therapy for a transitional residential program as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team for individuals that are being discharged from a state mental health facility. This position will help residents develop therapeutic coping mechanisms through rapport and trust building to assist them when having difficulty managing their symptoms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification with or without an accommodation.   • Develop comprehensive age appropriate biopsychosocial assessments on each resident within designated time frame of admission.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to evaluate residents' medical or physical condition and to assess client needs.
  • Provide therapy sessions to residents as ordered by the psychiatric practitioner.
  • Provide documentation of therapeutic services and groups in accordance with standards.
  • Participate with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, reviewing and modifying clinical treatment plans for residents that are resident centered and resident specific.
  • Serve as resident advocate for resident needs within the community.

KNOWLEDGE and JOB SKILLS:
  • Excellent interviewing, crisis intervention, communication, assessment and counseling skills are essential to this position.
  • Knowledgeable of the dynamics of individuals with serious psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders and their treatment, legal and ethical issues in the treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all laws pertaining to the voluntary and involuntary treatment of individuals deemed to be in danger of harming themselves or others by virtue of their behavior, mental illness or drug and/or alcohol use/abuse as specified in the Baker and Marchman Acts.

JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Ability to exercise good clinical judgment in crisis, patient/family, and other conflict situations. The Therapist must utilize his/her clinical judgment in a manner that actively promotes LifeStream's values through their actions and interactions with residents, employees and the community.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Required: Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or other relevant Human Service Field with at least one (1) year direct clinical experience.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years direct clinical experience preferably in a mental health setting with an emphasis on adults who have a chronic mental illness.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually.
