Job Position: Voice & Data Technician
Location: Austin, TX 78758
Pay Rate: $20 $38/hr
Description: Voice & Data Technician
Austin Area | $20 $38/hr
TradeSTAR is hiring experienced Voice & Data Technicians for commercial structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure projects throughout the Austin area. These positions support new construction, data center builds, tenant finish-outs, healthcare facilities, industrial sites, and enterprise network deployments.
We are seeking technicians with strong experience in structured cabling systems, copper and fiber infrastructure, MDF/IDF buildouts, and commercial low-voltage installations.
Job Responsibilities
Install, route, support, and terminate structured cabling systems in commercial environments
Pull copper and fiber optic cabling through conduit, cable tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, and underground pathways
Install and terminate Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling systems
Build and dress MDFs, IDFs, network racks, patch panels, and cable management systems
Perform RJ45 terminations, patch panel punch-downs, and fiber optic terminations
Install wireless access point cabling, backbone infrastructure, and horizontal cabling systems
Test and certify copper cabling using Fluke testers and perform fiber testing using OTDR and power meter equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, rack elevations, floor plans, and cable schedules
Label and document cabling infrastructure in accordance with ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards
Troubleshoot cable faults, connectivity issues, signal loss, and infrastructure deficiencies
Maintain clean and organized telecommunications rooms and work areas
Technical Requirements
1+ years of commercial structured cabling experience
Experience with copper and fiber optic installations in commercial environments
Knowledge of ANSI/TIA standards, low-voltage infrastructure, and cable pathway systems
Ability to terminate and test voice, data, and fiber cabling systems
Experience working from blueprints and telecommunications drawings
Familiarity with MDF/IDF environments and rack buildouts
Ability to work from ladders and lifts in active commercial construction sites
Reliable transportation and industry-standard hand tools required
Preferred Experience
Fluke cable certification testing
OTDR and fiber testing
Fusion splicing
BICSI standards and structured cabling best practices
Experience in healthcare, industrial, education, or data center environments
Compensation & Benefits
