What is a vocational case manager?

When clients suffer from medical or mental health issues that make work more difficult, the responsibilities of a vocational case manager are to counsel them on their employment and rehab options and help them develop goals. The typical duties of a vocational case manager are to assess a situation, refer the client to rehabilitation programs or job training seminars, and help them overcome any barriers to employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vocational case manager?

To thrive as a Vocational Case Manager, you need expertise in vocational rehabilitation, case management, and counseling, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, social work, or a related field. Familiarity with case management software, employment assessment tools, and sometimes certification such as Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help build trust with clients and coordinate with employers and service providers. These skills ensure clients receive tailored support and achieve successful employment outcomes, which is central to the role's impact.

How does a vocational case manager typically collaborate with other professionals to support clients' employment goals?
