Job description

About the Role
We're looking for a Procurement Enablement Lead to improve how employees and stakeholders navigate procurement at OpenAI. This role partners across Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, Privacy, and Enterprise Technology to simplify workflows, improve guidance, and support scalable procurement experiences across the procurement lifecycle. You'll translate procurement policies and operational requirements into clearer processes, better-enabled systems, and more intuitive employee experiences that reduce friction while strengthening consistency and controls as OpenAI continues to grow.
This role is ideal for someone who combines operational judgment, process design, and strong cross-functional partnership skills. You should be comfortable working in evolving environments where systems and workflows are still being built and continuously improved. A key part of the role will be identifying opportunities to use AI and automation to streamline workflows, reduce manual work, and improve service delivery across Procurement operations.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days per week in the office and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
  • Partner across Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, Privacy, and Enterprise Technology to improve how procurement work gets requested, routed, approved, and supported across the spend lifecycle.
  • Help design and improve procurement intake, guidance, and workflow experiences that make it easier for employees and stakeholders to navigate procurement processes.
  • Translate procurement policies, operational needs, stakeholder feedback, and operational insights into clear business requirements for workflows, automation, reporting, analytics, and process improvements.
  • Partner with Enterprise Technology and tool owners to support workflow configuration improvements across procurement systems, including approvals, routing, SLAs, escalation paths, exception handling, and reporting capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to use AI, automation, analytics, and decision support tools to reduce manual work, simplify employee experiences, and improve service delivery across Procurement operations.
  • Analyze operational data, workflow metrics, and stakeholder feedback to identify friction points, uncover trends, measure adoption, and prioritize improvements across procurement workflows and support experiences.
  • Build and maintain operational reporting, KPI frameworks, and workflow performance insights that support prioritization, service improvements, and data-driven decision-making across Procurement operations.
  • Support rollout and adoption of new procurement processes and tools, including testing, documentation, communications, training, and change management.
  • Help improve consistency, controls, and data quality across procurement workflows to support operational scalability, reporting, and audit readiness.
You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have 8+ years of experience in Procurement Technology, Procurement Operations, Finance Operations, or related operational and systems-focused roles.
  • Bring hands-on experience with procurement and finance platforms such as Zip, Oracle Fusion, VNDLY, Navan, Brex, or similar workflow and transaction systems.
  • Have deep operational knowledge across Source-to-Contract, Procure-to-Pay, Travel & Expense, and Contingent Workforce / Extended Workforce processes.
  • Have experience designing, improving, and scaling operational workflows, automation, and service delivery models in complex enterprise environments.
  • Have strong analytical and data interpretation skills, including experience working with operational metrics, workflow data, reporting tools, and large datasets to drive process improvements and operational decision-making.
  • Are comfortable using data to identify trends, measure adoption, prioritize enhancements, and communicate operational insights to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Understand procurement controls and governance, including approval frameworks, audit trail requirements, SOX-aware process design, and risk management in enterprise finance and procurement environments.
  • Have experience applying AI tools, including GPT-based capabilities, automation tooling, analytics, or decision support solutions to improve operational workflows and internal service delivery.
  • Have experience translating business requirements into scalable workflows and system solutions while partnering effectively with Enterprise Technology, engineering, or systems teams.
  • Have strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills, and are comfortable working across Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, Privacy, IT, and business teams.
  • Are strong in process documentation and operational playbook development, and can turn complex workflows into clear SOPs, workflow maps, guidance, and knowledge assets.
  • Have experience leading rollout, change management, training, and communication efforts that improve adoption and create durable operational change.
