Job description

Position Overview
Vision IT is seeking an experienced SIPR Lead / VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support mission-critical operations at Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). The selected candidate will serve as the technical lead for both NIPR and SIPR Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments, ensuring the stability, security, performance, and operational readiness of enterprise virtualized systems supporting classified and unclassified networks. This position requires advanced VMware expertise, strong systems administration experience, and the ability to lead implementation, troubleshooting, optimization, and sustainment efforts within secure Department of Defense (DoD) environments. Key Responsibilities
Serve as the lead technical SME for NIPR and SIPR Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments.
Manage, maintain, and optimize VMware-based virtual infrastructure supporting classified and unclassified operations.
Provide advanced systems administration support for enterprise virtual environments, servers, storage, and associated infrastructure.
Lead troubleshooting and resolution efforts for complex VDI, virtualization, and systems integration issues.
Design, implement, configure, and sustain VMware solutions in accordance with DoD security and operational requirements.
Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and operational health across SIPR and NIPR environments.
Support system upgrades, patching, migrations, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
Collaborate with cybersecurity, network operations, engineering, and operations teams to maintain secure and compliant environments.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation plans, operational procedures, and system configurations.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to system administrators and support personnel.
Ensure compliance with applicable DoD policies, security directives, and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in systems administration, virtualization, enterprise infrastructure, or network operations.
Extensive hands-on experience supporting VMware VDI and enterprise virtualization platforms.
Demonstrated experience supporting SIPR and NIPR environments within a DoD or government setting.
Strong understanding of virtualization architecture, storage systems, server infrastructure, and enterprise systems management.
Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving advanced VMware and VDI-related issues.
Ability to work effectively in high-security, mission-critical environments.
Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
Active Secret Clearance or above
Certification Requirements
VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification required.
DCWF Requirement
DCWF Role (451): Systems Administrator – Advanced
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or Space Force IT operations.
Familiarity with classified network operations and secure enclave environments.
Experience with VMware Horizon, vSphere, ESXi, NSX, and enterprise storage technologies.
Additional certifications such as Security+, CISSP, VMware VCP, or Microsoft certifications preferred.
