DISA DES - VMWare Horizon Engineer - Mid

The VMWare Horizon Engineer - Mid supports a large federal agency’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environment and will be responsible for the upkeep of the security posture of the environment. The VMware Horizon engineer will work on a Tier III Server team required to package software, assist with the implementation of VMware Horizon View, with Gold Image, App Stack creation as well as User Environment Manager (UEM) configuration and tuning.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Network or other Certifications needed or specialty experience: 3 yrs ServiceNow
  • Security+CE (or appropriate DoDM 8570 Baseline Certification)
  • IAT Level II certification is required before start

Responsibilities:

  • VDI Golden Image best practices
  • Creation of golden images w/ automation of image creation a plus
  • Image optimization concepts and best practices
  • Application Virtualization concepts and best practices
    1. App Volumes knowledge
      • App Stack capture best practices
      • Writable Volumes pros and cons/best use cases
    2. ThinApp knowledge/provisioning experience a plus
  • VMWare User Environment Manager (UEM) experience

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid experience with app deployment and configuration management using SCCM
  • Participates in the design of these systems in conjunction with IT team
  • Support the Business Technology Infrastructure team to apply VDI systems technology solutions in support of identified business problems
  • Responsible for analysis, administration, and support of VMWare Horizon View VDI, thin clients, and other VDI-related technology
  • Provisions servers including adding, allocating and managing vDisks for end-user devices
  • Participates in evaluation, selection, implementation and on-going support of software, hardware and tools used by the Enterprise Infrastructure platform
  • Responds to End User requests for technical support and assistance within established procedures
  • Provides operational support for Active Directory, Windows Server, and other Microsoft Application Servers
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems and responds to escalated requests for technical assistance
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures.
