Job description

Virtualization Administrator (VMware / VDI)

Location
Vicksburg, MS (Onsite with Hybrid Flexibility)

Brown Technologies is a rapidly growing company with a proven record of success supporting complex cutting-edge development programs. We are an employee-centric company that understands the individuals that comprise our workforce are our most important asset and are recognized as one of "The Best Place for Working Parents". Come join our team of experienced, dedicated, and committed professionals whose focus is to solve the mission-critical problems of our customers.

We are seeking a full-time VMware Administrator supporting the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  The position is primarily onsite, with a hybrid schedule that offers some flexibility for remote work. The role is responsible for administering and maintaining virtual desktop and application delivery platforms, supporting Windows Server and enterprise Windows environments, managing virtual images and streamed applications, and providing day-to-day technical support to help ensure secure, reliable, and compliant system operations.

Duties include:

  • Support VMware Horizon (VDI), including desktop pools, application delivery, and connection infrastructure
  • Administer and maintain VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter) in a high availability (HA) configuration
  • Manage cluster performance, resource utilization, and overall health across compute, storage, and networking
  • Build, maintain, and patch Windows desktop (VDI) images, including optimization and application integration
  • Configure, package, publish, and maintain applications delivered through streaming or layering technologies, enabling users to access required software in VDI environments without traditional localized installations.
  • Administer Windows Server systems, including configuration, application management, patching, and system hardening
  • Manage lifecycle of virtual machines, server images, and VDI golden images, including updates and deployments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across virtualization, guest operating systems, storage, and networking
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions
  • Apply security best practices, including STIG compliance, patching, and access controls

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong experience administering VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) in a high availability environment, including HA, DRS, and vMotion
  • Proficiency with Windows Server administration
  • Experience supporting and maintaining Windows 10 / Windows 11 desktop environments, particularly in a VDI context
  • Solid understanding of enterprise storage and networking concepts (SAN/NAS, VLANs, virtual switches, and network segmentation)
  • Hands-on experience with VMware Horizon (VDI), including desktop pools, golden image creation, and lifecycle management
  • Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and applying security best practices (e.g., STIG compliance, system hardening, and access controls)

Required Experience:

  • 5 years of experience administering VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter) in an enterprise setting
  • Experience administering Windows Server and Windows 10/11 systems, including patching, basic Active Directory integration, and troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting high availability environments, including troubleshooting across virtualization, storage, and networking components

Eucation / Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution is strongly preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must meet DoD 8140 IAT Level II requirements, including an approved baseline certification (e.g., Security+). Candidates should also possess or be able to obtain computing environment certifications relevant to VMware, Windows Server, or Linux platforms.

Security Clearance Level

Active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance required, or the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with a favorable background investigation and eligibility for expedited processing.
