Job description

The Visual Merchandiser leads the development and execution of compelling visual merchandising presentation across all stores to tell product and shopping experience stories that engage consumers (cruise guests) and entice them to purchase. The VM plays a critical role as a strategic business partner who will work directly with the General Manager as well as the Marketing, Merchandising and Planning teams in order to create the overall vision and execute visual strategies for in-store presentation in all of Starboard's retail shops for our Cruise Line Partners. They will also oversee visual presentation, communication and training and development of shipboard teams.

What you'll be doing:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure brand, product and retail store standards:

  • Aligns with GM, marketing and merchandising teams to understand product placement and merchandising strategy and ensure business objectives are met through visual execution
  • Partner cross-functionally with marketing, merchandising, and planning teams to align to floorplans and ensure in-store experience is cohesive with marketing campaigns and strategies
  • Liaise with shipboard teams to adapt presentations based on trend, itinerary, sell-through, etc.
  • Partner with marketing to decide placement of visual materials on different ships
  • Makes visual merchandising decisions to positively impact business performance.
  • Sets guidelines and standards to ensure aligned and consistent execution of cruise line branding through visual merchandising initiatives

Shipboard Training and Development:

  • Develops learning materials and directives to train shipboard staff on the execution, flexing and maintenance of visual merchandising standards.
  • Accountable for execution of visual deliverables including photo reviews to ensure brand integrity
  • Provides coaching and development to teams onboard to ensure their ability to execute on visual standards.
  • Shares and communicates best practices amongst ships of common or similar designย  ย  ย  ย 

Creative Concepting and Execution:

  • Develop creative Visual Merchandising concepts to support Merchandising and Marketing initiatives in alignment with cruise line account team (product presentations, window displays, "Instagrammable" VM installations, etc.)
  • Responsible for fixture development, installation (as needed) and placements of visual merchandising elements onboard ships ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

Project Management:

  • Project manage renovations, new builds, itinerary changes, holiday, MP&D program initiatives throughout the year, fixture roll-outs for assigned cruise lines
  • Deliver visual merchandising presentations

Education and Experience:

  • 4 -6 Years of Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Equivalent combination of work/education experience accepted

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Photoshop experience and expertise a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong presentation skills and general understanding of color theory, styling and industry trend
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to tasks and challenges
  • Ability to coach, mentor and deliver feedback while motivating others to achieve goals

Other:Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkSome flexibility in hours is permitted, employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and must work 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Physical Demands:Office environment with frequent sitting, walking and standing, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling use of office machinery. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Oral and auditory enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication automated devise such as the telephone.
