About the team and position

The Inspection Center General Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the center. Providing leadership for up to 500 associates working multiple shifts in a lean manufacturing environment. Maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and high associate engagement while ensuring the facility meets quality, production, and cost objectives.

What you'll be doing

Leadership 30%

  • Leads strategic planning to ensure the facility will have the capability to meet future demands.
  • Provides strategic vision and guidance to the location
  • Ensures management beliefs and behaviors are in line with the Carvana culture
  • Frequent visits to the shop floor to ensure connection with the realities of the business and model leadership behaviors throughout the organization
  • Positively challenge and engage the team to continuously improve quality production and cost performance

Production Management 30%

  • Lead production planning for the Inspection Center
  • Ensure the Inspection Center has adequate capacity to meet production targets
  • Oversee weekly performance review meetings for each area and report out on the Inspection Centers performance
  • Identify problems impacting the Inspection Center's performance. Prioritize problems, allocate resources, and ensure the resolution of issues
  • Ensure operating standards such as standardized work, operating rules, 5S, and visual management tools are consistently executed
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety and loss prevention guidelines

People Management 30%

  • Participate in the selection and hiring process, ensure a pipeline of associates to fill current and future positions
  • Maintain a bench of candidates for each leadership position
  • Ensure progression path training and certification process is consistently executed
  • Model effective teamwork and ensure it's embraced at all levels of the organization
  • Provide competency-based feedback and ensure leaders throughout the organization are also providing appropriate feedback
  • Mentor reconditioning managers

Continuous Improvement 10%

  • Lead the selection of continuous improve events, allocate resources to support events, and hold the team accountable for results
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement efforts
  • Train and mentor reconditioning managers on problem-solving
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you should have

  • Minimum of 8 years of management experience either in automotive or a lean manufacturing environment leading multiple work groups
  • A valid driver's license
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license with a clean driving record in the last 3 years
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Proven track record of leading and developing associates
  • Proven ability to obtain project deliverables and company metrics
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing production environment while sometimes being exposed to excessive weather conditions (heat/cold)
  • Excellent communications skills, oral and written
  • Ability to work with and through teams to achieve results
  • Strong analysis and decision making ability
  • Proficient computer skills

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • A clean driving record with no more than two moving violations or DUI's in the last three years
  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
  • Will be required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials
  • May be requested to work overtime and weekends for special programs and events.
  • Frequent standing and sitting with varying periods of each
  • May at times require working different shifts
  • Lift up to 40 pounds frequently
  • Walk up to three miles each day
