Visual Communications Specialist

8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday - Friday)

*A flexible work schedule may be approved with up to two days remote work per week (if applicable)

Salary Range: Hourly from $29.25 to $42.94; Annually from $61,074 to $89,659

*Salary placement is dependent on education and experience

THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT

The Visual Communications Specialist advances Normandale Community College's marketing, enrollment, and reputation goals by developing, coordinating, and disseminating institutional information in a clear, accessible, and purposeful manner. The position exercises professional judgment in shaping messaging, advising on communication approaches, and ensuring information is effectively communicated to diverse audiences.

Serving as a communications resource to campus stakeholders, the position collaborates with leadership and subjectmatter experts to translate complex institutional programs and initiatives into clear, accurate, and engaging publicfacing information across print, digital, and multimedia platforms. The role supports cohesive institutional messaging, provides guidance on communication effectiveness and accessibility, and coordinates projects and resources that enhance public understanding and engagement with Normandale's mission and priorities.

This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including achieving equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: (expected to have to enter job)

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professionallevel experience in communications, marketing, graphic design, visual communications, or a closely related field, demonstrating the ability to independently develop and implement communication products or strategies.
  • Education in a related field may substitute for required experience as follows: Associate's degree = 6 months, Bachelor's degree = 1 year, Master's degree = 18 months.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and visual composition.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Experience producing and coordinating print and digital materials such as posters, flyers, postcards, and signage
  • Proven communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse campus partners.

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field with additional relevant experience.
  • Experience developing brand kits, templates, and DIY resources for non-design users.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital and print media.
  • Familiarity with project management or ticketing systems (e.g., TDX).
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors for printing and production.
  • Ability to take initiative and propose creative solutions aligned with strategic goals.
