About the Role: As the Technical Director, Advanced Consulting Group, you'll be at the forefront of helping working Americans prepare for and live in retirement. Your expertise in the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) will help financial professionals help their Plan Sponsor clients bring creative savings opportunities to their employees. Your experience and expertise in qualified retirement plans, employee benefits, and distribution strategies will be crucial in guiding our strategy.
This is a fully remote opportunity for applicants with critical industry skills and relevant experience. Candidates located near a Nationwide campus will collaborate in office 3 days per week.
What We're Looking For:
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge in ERISA, Department of Labor (DOL) initiatives, and the IRC including legislative monitoring, qualified retirement plan design, qualified retirement plan compliance, plan operations and function, and fiduciary governance.
  • Qualifications: SIE & Series 6 is required within 120 days of hire; A JD is strongly desired; CPA is a plus.
  • Travel: Frequent travel is required to engage with clients, attend industry functions, and represent Nationwide at various forums.
  • Leadership Acumen: Demonstrated ability to be part of a cross functional team that can contribute to strategic visioning with a results-oriented mindset

Your Mission:
  • Drive Sales: Propel the sales of life insurance, annuity, mutual fund, and retirement plans through all distribution channels.
  • Consultative Excellence: Provide top-notch consulting services, offering strategic consultation in tax, legal, and technical areas.
  • Industry Leadership: Represent Nationwide at industry forums such as ASPPA, NAPA, PSCA, ARA, EBRI, NACo, NIPA, and NTSA.
  • Engagement: Speak at firm, broker/dealer, and industry functions, showcasing your expertise and Nationwide's position.
  • Content development: Ability to create educational white papers, PowerPoint presentations, and other sales collateral on advanced planning concepts.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs case design by providing comprehensive tax and technical support around sophisticated concepts such as business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies to be funded with financial products.
  • Provides comprehensive consultation to wholesalers, financial professionals and their clients and third-party professionals.
  • Travels and speaks at industry events on sophisticated concepts impacting life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and qualified retirement plans.
  • Builds, advises and reviews sales collateral on the use of financial products used in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies.
  • Partners and collaborates with Marketing to provide a strategic approach to the development of sales and marketing campaigns for all Nationwide Financial sales channels.
  • Authors and publishes tax and sales related articles, white papers and sales ideas on sophisticated financial product applications for use in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies.
  • Drives sales by educating professional decision makers on recent tax and legal changes.
  • Crafts, implements and facilitates training on sophisticated concepts funded with financial products for Wholesalers and advisors.
  • Monitors, researches, interprets, applies and communicates current and anticipated legal, tax and regulatory changes to Product Development, Marketing, Underwriting and Business Development.
  • Collaborates with internal business partners to build and implement business plans and critical initiatives.
  • Provides a source of credibility through expertise and reputation in the industry to internal/external wholesalers and financial professionals as they establish their own credibility with clients.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Director or Officer
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Juris Doctor and/or Certified Public Accountant preferred. Studies in business, communication or marketing preferred.
License/Certification/Designation:FINRA Series 6 or 7 license required. CLU or ChFC designations preferred.
Experience: Eight to 10 years of related experience in a combination of law, accounting or financial planning/sales.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong public speaking skills, persuasive writing skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Proven knowledge of business law, tax, accounting, sales or financial planning.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
