Job Description
Visa is seeking a senior attorney to lead legal support for its business operations in Central America and the Caribbean (CARCAM). Based in Miami, Florida, this role reports to the SVP, Chief Counsel for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in San Francisco, California, and to the CARCAM Group Manager in Miami, Florida.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the legal team supporting Visa's CARCAM operations and serve as a member of the CARCAM leadership team.
  • Advise and support the CARCAM Group Manager and leadership team on legal matters.
  • Proactively identify legal and regulatory risks, develop solutions, and guide implementation through structured legal analysis, early escalation of key roadblocks, and creative negotiation strategies to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
  • Use deep knowledge of CARCAM markets, local electronic payment systems, relevant legal areas-including antitrust, privacy, intellectual property, anti-bribery, and employment-and Visa's business to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including client incentive, sponsorship, advertising, promotion, memorandum of understanding, technology, consultancy, contractor, and confidentiality agreements. Develop standard templates and adapt U.S. documents to meet local requirements.
  • Work closely with sales, product, marketing, compliance, and other functions to integrate legal guidance into the development and rollout of products and services.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Current member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • 15+ years of experience as in-house counsel at a multinational company or with a large law firm, with significant experience in complex commercial and regulatory matters.
  • Preferred experience in payments or fintech, including engagement with financial and competition regulators.
  • Strong understanding of the electronic payments industry and CARCAM regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex legal concepts into clear, practical, and actionable advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to serve as a strategic advisor to CARCAM leadership by pressure-testing ideas, identifying risks, and assessing strategic changes with potential legal or business implications.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build effective relationships with internal clients at all management levels, while collaborating with LAC regional and global teams across a matrixed, multi-country organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Some international travel may be required.

Information for US Applicants
For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $185,000.00 to $ 296,100.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.

Travel Requirements
This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
