Job description

MTSI is currently seeking to hire a Virtual Environment Lead (VEL) to join the team in Honolulu, HI.
Overview:
The Virtual Environment Lead (VEL) provides technical leadership, strategic direction, and hands-on management for all virtualized environments across the enterprise. This includes Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), server virtualization platforms, and additional virtualized services as required. The VEL ensures secure, reliable, and optimized virtualized solutions that support mission-critical operations. A substantial portion of responsibilities will center on detailed administration and lifecycle management of VDI systems.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for all virtual environment initiatives, including VDI, server virtualization, and other virtualized services.
  • Architect, deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise-grade VDI platforms (e.g., VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop).
  • Manage performance, capacity, and availability of virtual systems, ensuring optimal user experience and mission readiness.
  • Oversee virtualization hypervisors and associated infrastructure, such as VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and related management tools.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot VDI and virtual environment issues, identifying bottlenecks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain automation and scripting solutions (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to streamline administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure security compliance for virtual environments, including adherence to applicable policies, guidelines, and DoD standards.
  • Collaborate with networking, storage, cybersecurity, and application teams to ensure integrated and secure virtual solutions.
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight for team members supporting VDI and virtualization systems.
  • Support planning, forecasting, and implementation of virtualization upgrades or migrations.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelors degree with 10 years related experience.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of four years of experience in VDI administration and management, with specific expertise in virtual systems (e.g., Citrix Virtual Apps, virtual desktops, cross-domain solutions, access solutions, VDI technologies).
  • Expertise in at least one major VDI platform (e.g., VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop).
  • Strong understanding of virtualization technologies, including hypervisors such as VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Proficiency with networking technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSL/TLS), storage solutions (e.g., SAN, NAS), and security policies relevant to VDI environments.
  • Experience using scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for administering VDI and virtual systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor VDI performance, identify performance issues, and optimize environments for seamless user operation.

Required Certifications:
Relevant certifications in VDI and virtualization platforms, such as:
  • VMware Certified Professional - Desktop and Mobility
  • Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization
  • Nutanix Certified Professional
