The School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Health Behavior and Clinical Sciences, is recruiting a nursing professional with clinical experience as a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to teach one clinical section (3 credits, 25% effort) of the combined N693/694 face to face clinical group (with up to a total of 8 students) - Advanced Primary Care Practicum II - FNP and Advanced Primary Care Practicum II - Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) .
COURSE DESCRIPTION
N693 - Advanced Primary Care Practicum II - FNP :
This clinical practicum course is for FNP students to apply the didactic, theoretical, and evidence-based knowledge developed in N666 and prior clinical courses N566 and N557 in clinical settings. Students will participate in preceptor supervised clinical experiences to demonstrate integration of clinical experiences from N593 with the addition of management of chronic illness in primary care practice across the lifespan for individuals and families.
N694 - Advanced Primary Care Practicum II - AGPCNP :
This clinical practicum course is for AGPCNP students to apply the didactic, theoretical and evidence-based knowledge developed in N666 and prior clinical courses, N566 and N557 in clinical settings. Students will participate in preceptor supervised clinical experiences to demonstrate integration of clinical experiences from N594 with the addition of management of chronic illness in primary care practice for individuals age 13 and older in primary care settings.
Responsibilities*
The Lecturer appointed to this position is expected to attend all simulations and clinical conferences, perform clinical site visits, provide feedback to students, and provide remediation for students who need additional support. The Lecturer is responsible for grading all assignments and simulations and bears primary responsibility for computing final grades in a timely fashion.
This position includes classroom and clinical teaching that will take place in classroom, virtual, and clinic settings and may include other on-site work hours. Additional settings include the Clinical Learning Center at the School of Nursing.
This position requires availability for synchronous activities in face-to-face and virtual formats including:
- Clinical conferences on select Thursdays including September 3, 17, 24; October 8, 22, 29; November 19; and December 10, 2026. The LEO Lecturer hired can choose one time slot for clinical conferences on the set dates (either 7:00-8:00 am, 11:15 am - 12:15 pm, or 4:00 - 5:00 pm). Faculty will also need to be present on November 13, 2026, to view and grade student simulations between 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Additional Zoom activities for 1:1 exercises and office hours with students are scheduled at mutually convenient times.
- Students will complete a recorded virtual standardized patient encounter on September 11, 2026. These can be graded synchronously or by watching the recording later.
- Additional activities include in-person and virtual clinical site visits, preparation of course and program content, and student support for remediation to be coordinated with the program lead.
NOTE: This appointment is for Fall term, 2026 only.
Required Qualifications*
- A Master of Nursing, DNP, or PhD degree is required.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have clinical teaching experience and clinical practice experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
- A nursing license in the State of Michigan is required for this position (current licensure or willingness to obtain licensure).
- A specialty certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is required for this position.
- Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements, including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s).
