Is AI replacing proofreaders?

AI tools are increasingly used to assist proofreaders by identifying grammar, spelling, and style errors, but they do not fully replace human proofreaders. Human oversight remains essential for nuanced editing, context understanding, and maintaining quality standards in proofreading jobs. Proofreaders who adapt by integrating AI tools and developing strong editing skills can continue to find employment in the field.

How much do online proofreaders make?

Online proofreaders typically earn between $10 and $30 per hour, depending on experience, skill level, and the complexity of the work. Many work as freelancers, setting their own rates, while some are employed by companies with fixed salaries or hourly wages.

How do I become an online proofreader?

To become an online proofreader, you should develop strong language and grammar skills, often by completing relevant courses or obtaining certifications such as the Proofreading Certification. Gaining experience through practice or freelance work and familiarizing yourself with editing tools like Microsoft Word or Grammarly can improve your prospects. Many online proofreading jobs require attention to detail, good time management, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Are remote proofreading jobs legit?

Remote proofreading jobs are legitimate opportunities that involve reviewing and correcting written content from home. However, job seekers should verify the employer's credibility and be cautious of scams that request upfront payments or personal information. Reliable positions typically require strong language skills and may involve using editing tools or style guides.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an International Creative Writer with French based in Netherlands.

Join an international team creating engaging conversational experiences for cutting-edge virtual assistant technology. In this freelance role, you'll craft creative, culturally relevant dialogue that resonates with French-speaking audiences while maintaining a consistent global voice. You'll combine creativity, language expertise, and editorial precision to shape natural conversations inspired by current events, trends, and everyday interactions. Working in a fully remote environment, you'll collaborate with other writers and reviewers, contribute fresh ideas, and continuously refine the user experience. This is an excellent opportunity for creative linguists who enjoy storytelling, localization, and adapting content for innovative AI-driven products.

Accountabilities
  • Write, edit, and enhance creative dialogues for a virtual assistant, incorporating current events, cultural moments, seasonal topics, and user-centric scenarios.
  • Refresh and improve existing conversational content to ensure it remains engaging, accurate, and relevant.
  • Help maintain a consistent personality and tone across all dialogues while adapting content naturally for French-speaking audiences.
  • Translate and localize dialogue from English into French, preserving intent, style, and cultural relevance.
  • Review and provide feedback on dialogue created by other writers to ensure editorial quality and consistency.
  • Perform quality assurance on conversational content before publication.
  • Format and integrate dialogue into XML files using proprietary tools, with training provided.
Requirements
  • Native-level French writing skills with excellent command of written English for translation and adaptation tasks.
  • Strong creative writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to evaluate, refine, and improve conversational content.
  • Interest in current events, popular culture, and emerging trends to create timely, engaging dialogue.
  • Openness to feedback, continuous learning, and collaboration within an international remote team.
  • Comfortable learning new software and content management tools.
  • Previous experience in creative writing, localization, translation, editorial work, or conversational AI content is an advantage.
Benefits
  • Fully remote freelance opportunity.
  • Flexible schedule with an expected commitment of approximately 24 hours per week.
  • Hourly compensation.
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative AI-powered conversational experiences.
  • Training on proprietary tools and workflows.
  • International, collaborative working environment.
  • Flexible work arrangement that supports independent professionals.
