To thrive as a Virtual Primary Care provider, you need a medical degree, licensure, and expertise in primary care practices, along with strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure communication tools is essential. Outstanding communication, digital empathy, and adaptability help build patient trust and effectively manage remote consultations. These skills are vital to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in a virtual environment.

Virtual Primary Care providers often face challenges such as building rapport with patients remotely, managing technical issues, and ensuring continuity of care. Regular training in telemedicine best practices and staying updated on digital tools can further enhance both patient experience and provider effectiveness.

What is virtual primary care?

Virtual primary care is a form of healthcare delivery where patients consult with primary care providers remotely, using video calls, phone calls, or secure messaging. This approach allows patients to receive medical advice, diagnosis, and treatment for common health conditions without visiting a clinic in person. Virtual primary care often covers preventive care, management of chronic conditions, prescription refills, and general health consultations. It offers convenience, accessibility, and timely care, especially for those with mobility limitations or busy schedules.

Job Description:

First Stop Health is in search of part-time, 1099 physicians to join our Virtual Primary Care team. First Stop Healthโ€™s mission is to help our employer clients reduce their overall health claims spend by serving their members virtually, keeping them away from in-person medical care when possible. Our primary care physicians will treat patients virtually, via phone or video call, serving their episodic, chronic, and preventive care needs.

  • Order labs, imaging, and/or refer to an in-person specialist when further care is necessary
  • Analyze lab/imaging results and clearly communicate any next steps to the patient via follow-up appointment
  • Prescribe medications if and when necessary; swap brand-name medications for lower-cost generics when clinically appropriate*
  • Assist patients in managing chronic concerns, and advise on lifestyle regimens such as proper nutrition, exercise and stress reduction
  • Maintain accurate patient records and encounter notes
  • Operate as part of a care team to ensure patients are cared for in a timely, efficient manner

Requirements:

  • Willing to become licensed in additional states on an as-needed basis
  • Bandwidth to commit at least 10 hours/week to First Stop Health
  • Passion for using technology to increase access to and affordability of care
  • Enjoy building trust and rapport with patients and maintaining those relationships over time
