Job description

Temple University's Office of the Graduate School is searching for a Director of Graduate School Operations and Strategic Initiatives!

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000

Position Description 
The Director of Graduate School Operations and Strategic Initiatives reports directly to the Dean of the Graduate School and serves as a key member of the Graduate School leadership team. The position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Graduate School initiatives, programs, communications, governance, and student success efforts. The Director collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and assess initiatives that strengthen graduate student recruitment, retention, completion, and professional development. 

The Director is responsible for leading cross-functional projects, supporting graduate academic governance, overseeing dissertation and thesis processes, managing key publications and communications, and advancing data-informed decision-making to support institutional priorities. The position serves as a liaison to graduate programs across the university and fosters collaborative partnerships that enhance the graduate student experience and support the Graduate School's strategic goals. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Details

Required Education and Experience 
* Master's Degree. 
* At least six (6) years of administrative experience in higher education. 
* Proven record of effective operations management and/or strategic initiatives in higher education. 
* Demonstrated leadership/supervision within higher education administration. 
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience 
* Doctoral Degree. 
* Demonstrated leadership in project management. 
* Experience with various computer applications and uses (e.g., CRMs, LMSs, MS Office, website editing).

Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, administrative staff, and domestic and international students. 
*Demonstrate the ability to be detail-oriented to assure the accuracy of the required program information for the Professional and Graduate Bulletin. 
* Demonstrates computer experience, including MS Office applications (e.g., Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), database management, customer relationship management systems (CRM; e.g., Slate), and web-based learning management systems (LMS; e.g., Canvas).
* Demonstrates expert knowledge of developing and editing a variety of types of documents including print and virtual materials. 
* Ability to conduct research with a willingness to take on new tasks, embrace failure, and develop new skills and knowledge.
* Ability to influence without authority to create good team dynamics. 
* Demonstrates project and team management skills and serve as a mentor to others. 
* Ability to work at night and/or weekends and travel to off-campus locations, as needed. 
* Ability to occasionally travel to locations outside of the greater Philadelphia area for graduate student recruitment as needed.

Preferred Skills and Abilities 
* Demonstrated leadership in graduate recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
* Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner and Slate). 
* Experience building and using Excel Pivot tables. 
* Experience designing slide decks for presentations and webinars.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
