These jobs span a wide range of industries and roles, including customer service, data entry, virtual assistance, teaching, marketing, and software development. Virtual online jobs offer flexibility in terms of location and sometimes hours, making them popular among people seeking work-from-home opportunities. Employers typically require reliable internet access and strong communication skills for these roles.

What are different types of virtual online jobs?

There are a variety of virtual jobs online, including a virtual assistant, an online teacher, and a work from home therapist. As a virtual assistant, your responsibilities include responding to phone calls and emails, organizing a client’s calendar, providing customer service, performing general administrative tasks, and booking travel when necessary. In an online teaching role, your duties are to help students learn a specific subject, present lesson plans, and grade student work. If you work from home as a therapist, your primary focus is to help clients achieve mental and emotional growth through therapy. You guide clients through therapeutic sessions, help clients find appropriate coping and problem-solving strategies, and develop individualized treatment plans.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, proficiency in administrative tasks, and often a background in business or office support. Familiarity with productivity tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, project management software, and basic bookkeeping systems is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability are essential soft skills that set top performers apart. These skills ensure efficient remote support, clear client interactions, and the ability to handle diverse tasks in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by virtual online assistants when working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Virtual Online Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing time zones, maintaining clear communication with clients, and balancing multiple tasks for different stakeholders. To address these challenges, it's important to utilize digital tools for scheduling and task management, set clear expectations with clients regarding availability, and establish regular check-ins to ensure alignment. Building strong organizational skills and proactively seeking feedback also contribute to success in a remote environment.

Job description

BookNook is seeking tutors available to support students across the United States in math and reading who have time to tutor most weekdays for at least one hour between 4 pm to 7 pm ET? (can tutor more hours as well)
  • BookNook is seeking talented USA based math tutors who are ready to actively participate in the application and onboarding process to be available to support students this coming fall. Please only apply if you're ready to dive into the application steps and keep the momentum going with BookNook.
  • Interested? Please review the full details below and apply with a personal email (rather than a work or school email) to help ensure replies arrive at your inbox successfully.

BookNook tutors support school districts across the United States meeting with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions. Tutors enjoy a supportive community, the BookNook virtual classroom, and fully provided lesson content-no lesson content prep and planning! This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students by walking alongside students on their learning journey.
To align with anticipated tutoring days and times, we invite you to apply if your availability often includes at least one hour Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday within the time range of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET (with the potential to claim sessions to tutor outside of this time frame as well). Tutoring opportunities and hours often vary from week to week.
Position Specifics
  • Subject: Math with provided lesson content and practice extension materials.
  • Students: Across the USA, grades K to 8 (choose your grade levels to tutor)
  • Type: 1099-eligible independent contractor
  • Schedule: Follows the school year, September to May, most often 30 minute sessions
  • Pay Rate: $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session) with opportunities for incentive payments
  • Total Flexibility: Enjoy ultimate control over your schedule without weekly hours claimed requirements
  • Schedule Consistency: To provide students stable support, tutors attend at least 80% of sessions claimed.
  • Maximize Your Bookings: Our peak student demand falls between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET. While tutors are free to set their own hours, availability during this high-volume window is the best way to build your tutoring schedule.
  • Life Happens-We've Got You Covered: We fully respect that you have personal plans and obligations outside of work. Unable to attend a claimed session? Simply drop it on your calendar, and a peer from our collaborative tutor community can claim the session to support your students.

Requirements
  • Experience: Classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL, tutoring, coaching, or similar student support, online instruction experience with a college degree preferred.
  • Tutoring Focus: Deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons to provide targeted support for students often seeking to improve skills and topics at or below grade level.
  • Rapport: Ability to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging and motivating learning environment with supportive student corrections.
  • Technology: A computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, clean and distraction-free environment, reliable, high-speed internet connection speed of at least 20 mbps
  • Reside in and tutor from, one of the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Washington, or Washington DC.
  • Location: All sessions must be conducted from within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.

Ready to apply?
  • Apply: Submit an application online
  • Demonstrate: Applicants may be invited to submit a 5 minute one-way recorded demonstration of their tutoring style using the provided BookNook sample lesson content.
  • Say Hello: Next, an invite may be shared to schedule a 15 minute virtual meeting with a BookNook team member to learn more about the tutor role.
  • Onboard: Tutors that receive and accept an offer begin onboarding steps such as setting up a payment account, sharing a clear result on an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check (reimbursed up to a maximum of $99), and completion of a paid, self-paced BookNook tutor certification.
