Job Introduction

The company is an NJ-based small business building a social entrepreneurship venture in the learning and enrichment space. The company is looking for a motivated and creative hourly Math Enrichment Instructor to join the team in rolling out the initiative in Millburn, New Jersey and surrounding neighborhoods!
This is a paid hourly/flex position to deliver exceptional hands-on and interactive math related enrichment experiences to local families. Hours may vary (e.g., 0-5 hours/week) depending on activity session demand by the families and/or other project needs that may arise from time to time within the candidates availability preferences, capabilities, and interests.
The ideal candidate will work together with the local team in areas such as planning and conducting enrichment sessions, operational logistics, stakeholder engagement, and other relevant team and administrative functions from time to time. Job Duties & Requirements

  • Instruct individuals and groups in enrichment activities involving math, using a variety of methods and mediums, and adapting to participant and stakeholder needs and environments
  • Be on-call from time to time (flexible to be adjusted by instructors weekly) during after-school and/or weekend shifts in addition to any other availability
  • Have excellent communication skills and fluency in English (both verbal and writing)
  • Have excellent punctuality and time management skills, including the ability to arrive promptly to scheduled enrichment activity sessions in the greater Essex and Union counties of New Jersey, and be able to allocate time appropriately during sessions (e.g., for greetings, setup, instruction, wrap-up)
  • Plan, order, manage, setup, conduct, clean up, and/or assess activities, materials, and supplies as needed for activity sessions and environments (employees are supplied and/or reimbursed for activity materials and supplies)
  • Be physically able to (1) conduct in-person sessions in a variety of environments and formats including standing, walking, and sitting (e.g., up to 1-2 hours usually, and potentially up to 4-8 hours rarely), (2) lift activity related supplies and materials (e.g., up to 10 pounds usually, and potentially up to 30-40 pounds rarely), (3) have accurate vision and hearing to assess and provide feedback relating to participant work and their questions, and to perform work accurately and safely, and (4) adapt spontaneously to the needs of a variety of participants, environments, situations, and activity sessions.
  • Improve and modify activity sessions regularly, including seeking and integrating internal and external stakeholder feedback, customization requests, and other operational needs
  • Be able to collaborate with, train, and assess other team members, providers, apprentices, and/or staff in enrichment related activities and skills
  • Be able to join for virtual and in-person team meetings if scheduled from time to time
  • Perform work in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, company policies, industry best practices, and other requirements and standards, as well as evolving regulations and standards that may surface from time to time
  • Prepare required reports and paperwork from time to time as needed
  • Have strong organizational, collaboration, multitasking, and reporting skills
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Slides), email, and text messaging
  • Willing to learn and be flexible with the evolving needs of an early-stage initiative
  • Work with fellow team members in various areas from time to time such as activity planning, team building, providing feedback, marketing, operations, and other ad-hoc administrative tasks that may fall under candidate capabilities and interests
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or modified by management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors, equivalent, or advanced degree preferred
  • 1+ years of related experience in a teaching, tutoring, mentoring, training, coaching, or supplementary instruction type of role preferred
  • Previous experience in event coordination, community service, customer service, communications, or a related field is a plus
  • Familiarity with (or willingness to learn or assess if needed) tools in social media, marketing, content creation, or other relevant areas
