Job description

Patrick M. Villano Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Grade 5 Mathematics and Science Teacher to join our team for a leave replacement position. 

About the Position:

  • Dual-Subject Instruction: Teach Grade 5 Mathematics and Science with a focus on inquiry-based learning and conceptual understanding.
  • Bridge the Gap: Manage the classroom transition from the end of the spring term (June 2026) through the pivotal first semester of the following year (ending December 2026).
  • Curriculum Integration: Design engaging lessons that connect mathematical data analysis with scientific exploration, fostering critical thinking and real-world application.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the 5th-grade team to ensure instructional consistency and participate in collaborative planning sessions.
  • Student Support: Assess student progress and provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of 5th-grade learners.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Valid New Jersey teaching certification (Elementary Education K6).
  • Pedagogy: Strong knowledge of 5th-grade math standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Experience: Previous experience in upper elementary grades is preferred; familiarity with problem-based math and hands-on science inquiry is a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with a high-performing grade-level team and maintaining proactive communication with families.
