Job Description:
Our formative assessment and tutoring solutions turn data into practical instructional support to help all students build a strong foundation in early reading and math. All of our programs provide teachers with powerful tools that help them understand and respond to the needs of every student.
Amplify Tutoring launched in response to heightened student needs driven by disruptions in schooling and unfinished learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. High-dosage tutoring has gained national momentum as a proven research-based support to close achievement gaps for students. This is an opportunity to join an innovative team helping schools, districts, and states to scale high-impact tutoring programs and meet student needs. Amplify works in close partnership with districts and states on an array of tutoring initiatives, including: providing small group reading and math tutoring directly to district students through Amplify Tutors; providing tutoring materials, professional development, and program management for district-managed implementations; and providing high-impact tutoring consultancy services to support districts in designing their high-impact tutoring program.
Position Summary:
The Tutor Coach plays a critical role in virtually supporting a cohort of virtual Math and Reading Tutors. Amplify Tutors directly support small groups of K-8 students. Amplify provides initial and ongoing professional development and support to Amplify-employed Tutors. The primary responsibilities of the Tutor Coach will be to observe, provide feedback, and provide ongoing development and support to a team of Math and Reading Tutors in the areas of assessing students, accessing a given lesson plan, planning for tutoring sessions, and implementing the lessons. The Tutor Coach will create ongoing group trainings and support sessions for Tutors. All trainings and supports from the Tutor Coach will be virtual.
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, results-driven education leader who uses data to make decisions and ensures outstanding support to Math and Reading Tutors. They will combine a capacity for deep instructional knowledge and strong relationship-building skills to coach and develop Math and Reading Tutors.
*This position is virtual and open to candidates nationally, but the candidate must be able to work East Coast time zone work hours to support tutors during their work day.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Coach will also:
  • Virtually observe and support Math and Reading Tutors in preparing for and implementing high-quality virtual tutoring sessions in math and literacy
  • Use varied coaching strategies to elevate the quality of Math and Reading Tutors, including providing structured feedback, modeling, recording exemplars, facilitating co-planning sessions or professional development, etc.
  • Plan and facilitate internal team meetings that support Tutor development in preparing and implementing lessons
  • Design and facilitate ongoing professional development to deepen tutor content knowledge, instructional moves, and implementation fidelity
  • Collaborate in creating the tools, systems, and training necessary to onboard new Math and Reading Tutors
  • Identify trends across tutor performance, student needs, and implementation challenges, and use those insights to recommend responsive supports or program adjustments
  • Work in partnership with the Program Manager to communicate expectations with Math and Reading Tutors and ensure they are on time, on schedule, and follow lessons with fidelity
  • Support learning walks, account reviews, and other internal or external presentations that help school and district partners understand the tutoring model, instructional experience, and student impact
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for district and school leaders who use Amplify Tutoring materials
  • Collaborate with Tutor Talent team to design and tailor current professional development sessions to meet the needs of customers
  • Build transparency for both internal and external teams by helping surface insights about tutoring practice, program implementation, and areas for growth
  • Use AI tools responsibly to improve work quality, streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and support strong execution across coaching, planning, communication, and resource development

Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Coach is someone who has the following characteristics:
  • 5+ years of K-8 school-based experience
  • 3+ years of experience with teacher or tutor coaching in both individual and group settings at a school and/or district scale
  • Experience delivering and leading intervention in a school setting
  • Experience delivering professional development to district and school leaders
  • Strong knowledge of elementary math instruction, student thinking, and effective instructional strategies, with the ability to coach tutors toward rigorous and engaging math discourse
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and early literacy instructional best practices, with the ability to coach tutors toward explicit, effective instruction of literacy foundational skills
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and practices, including methods of differentiating instruction and fostering student engagement
  • Deep understanding of how to use student data to inform instruction and support growth
  • Proficient with technology (Google Meet, Google docs, Google platforms, AI tools such as Google Gemini or ChatGPT)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Has experience tutoring
  • Knowledge of and experience using Amplify Desmos Math, Amplify Desmos Math Mini-Lessons, Desmos interactive platform, and/or Amplify mCLASS products
  • Knowledge of and experience using mCLASS DIBELS and/or mCLASS Intervention
  • Familiarity with virtual instructional coaching, small-group intervention, and scalable tutor support systems
  • Experience supporting both math and literacy instruction
