Care Career is seeking a School Services Visual Impairments Teacher for a local contract job in Renton, Washington.

Braillist – 1:1 Student Support

Location: Washington State
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 3:10 PM
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week
Setting: In-person/on-site only
Support: 1:1 student support
 

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Braillist to provide 1:1 support to a visually impaired student in a school setting. The Braillist will work under the direction of a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and provide Braille instruction, accessible learning materials, visual accommodations, and other instructional support.

Virtual candidates will not be considered.
 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to visually impaired students.
  • Support instruction planned by the certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Provide Braille instruction and assistance.
  • Create and adapt Braille instructional materials.
  • Provide appropriate visual accommodations.
  • Assist students with assignments and classroom activities.
  • Collect and record student progress data.
  • Provide tutoring and small-group instruction as needed.
  • Implement established behavior management systems.
  • Assist with testing and correcting assignments.
  • Provide personal hygiene assistance when required.
  • Perform clerical and other instructional support duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the TVI, special education team, and school staff.
Requirements
  • Prior school support experience.
  • Ability to work in person/on site.
  • Fingerprinting/background check completed through OSPI.
  • Two completed supervisory references required upfront.
  • Current Washington State Braille Certificate, or ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated Braille competency through one of the following:
    • National Certification in Unified English Braille (NCUEB) through the National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB)
    • Library of Congress Certification in Braille Transcription
    • Washington State School for the Blind Braille Competency Test.
