Cheyney University of Pennsylvania (CU) is seeking one (1) full time General Librarian to join our faculty team. Cheyney University's General Librarian is responsible for the administration of all library operations, including the acquisition, preparation, and accessibility of library materials; the availability of appropriate library services and facilities; and the planning and evaluation required to make these materials and services as best as possible for university students, faculty, staff, and the needs of the local and regional communities. The University Librarian is a full-time, tenure track, faculty member. Duties & Responsibilities:
I. Meet student and faculty needs for teaching and learning:
1. Provide library support to strengthen academic programs.
a. Assist students in developing information literacy skills.
b. Help faculty members develop pedagogical skills.
c. Work with university partners to raise awareness and collaborate on delivering library services.
2. Enhance teaching effectiveness.
a. Provide access to information for students to complete course work.
b. Assist faculty members in delivering instruction.
c. Assist students and faculty in conducting independent research.
d. Identify discipline specific resources and train others (faculty and library staff) to support disciplinary need
3. Systematize opportunities for development of student capacity for research.
a. Provide continuous training, to prepare students in each stage of their development, to conduct academic research at an appropriate level
b. Visit classes each term to orient students to the library, information literacy, and essential research techniques in their disciplines.
II. Plan and grow the Cheyney University library program:
1. Formulate the library department's policies and procedures to manage and improve effectiveness.
2. Oversee the conversion to a virtual library and implement library services and special collections assessments.
3. Lead the development and implementation of an immediate plan to maintain archives and ethnic book collections, and a long-term process to digitize the collection.
4. Submit requests to purchase library resources as appropriate.
5. Serve as the library liaison with academic departments.
6. Maintain and supervise shelf lists, revision filing, and catalog record maintenance.
7. Perform original cataloging and complex copy cataloging as well as adapt OCLC records that do not conform to Cheyney University library format.
8. Develop strategic partnerships and collaborate to plan and grow the library program, emphasizing especially opportunities to utilize new technologies, employ best practices, and expand library services.
9. Additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Education, Training, and/or Experience: A minimum of American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree or its equivalent, five (5) years relevant academic experience with demonstrated ability to communicate and work with diverse clientele are required. Evening and weekend reference work is required. Voyager software, grants acquisition is preferred, and HBCU experience is highly preferred.
