The Senior Sales Instructional Designer serves as a strategic learning consultant and lead designer responsible for creating innovative, high-impact learning solutions that drive sales performance across the Employer & Individual Sales Readiness Commercial Product team. This role partners closely with sales leaders, trainers, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to transform complex business concepts into engaging, learner-centered experiences that accelerate knowledge, skill development, and performance.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled instructional design professional who thrives with minimal direction, leads through influence and expertise, and consistently delivers modern learning solutions that align with business objectives. This individual combines instructional design excellence, visual design expertise, project leadership, and emerging technologies including AI-driven learning tools-to create compelling learning experiences that produce measurable results.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learning Strategy & Design Leadership
    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise learning solutions supporting commercial sales professionals and related business teams
    • Serve as a trusted consultant to business leaders by identifying performance gaps, assessing needs, and recommending the most effective learning and performance support strategies
    • Translate complex product, business, and sales concepts into relevant, practical, and learner-focused solutions
    • Lead the overall learning strategy for assigned initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals, sales priorities, and learner needs
    • Influence learning approaches by challenging traditional methods and introducing innovative instructional strategies and technologies
  • Learning Development & Content Creation
    • Design and develop a variety of learning solutions, including:
      • Instructor-led training (ILT)
      • Virtual instructor-led training (VILT)
      • eLearning
      • Video-based learning
      • Webinars
      • Job aids and performance support tools
      • Interactive activities and simulations
      • Assessments and knowledge checks
      • Sales role-play scenarios
      • Microlearning and reinforcement resources
    • Create visually engaging, modern learning experiences that prioritize graphics, storytelling, and learner interaction over text-heavy content
    • Apply instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles to maximize learner engagement, retention, and application
    • Leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to improve learning quality, speed, scalability, and efficiency
  • Consulting & Stakeholder Management
    • Partner effectively with sales leadership, training teams, subject matter experts, marketing teams, and business stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
    • Facilitate discovery sessions, design meetings, content reviews, and stakeholder consultations to identify needs, gather feedback, and drive alignment
    • Influence decision-making by providing data-driven recommendations and thought leadership on learning strategy
    • Build solid relationships that foster collaboration, trust, and successful outcomes across multiple business areas
  • Project Leadership & Execution
    • Anticipate needs and drive projects forward while meeting aggressive timelines and business commitments
    • Ensure all learning deliverables meet quality standards, business requirements, and learner expectations
    • Lead testing, review, evaluation, and revision processes, incorporating stakeholder feedback while maintaining instructional integrity
  • Team Leadership & Capability Building
    • Serve as a mentor, coach, and subject matter expert for instructional design team members
    • Support onboarding and development of new designers through guidance, best-practice sharing, and skill development
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, collaboration, and learning excellence
    • Conduct train-the-trainer sessions and pilot program facilitation as needed to ensure successful implementation of learning solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • 12 years of demonstrated instructional design experience, including leadership of complex enterprise learning initiatives
  • Experience designing and delivering virtual and classroom-based learning programs
  • Proven experience leading projects independently with minimal oversight while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and performance consulting practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Camtasia, Articulate Rise, video editing software, Audio editing tools, graphic design and content creation tools, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing learning solutions for professional sales organizations (non-retail environments preferred).
  • Proven solid consulting, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting healthcare, health insurance, or regulated industry environments
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) administration and reporting
  • Experience designing learning websites, portals, or digital learning ecosystems
  • Experience measuring learning effectiveness and business impact through data and analytics
  • Knowledge of Employer & Individual health insurance products and commercial sales processes
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled learning technologies and content development tools

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
