About this Position

The Adjunct Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Instructor provides classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction in an AVMA-CVTEA accredited Veterinary Technology program. This position mentors students, supports the development of clinical competence and professional skills, and ensures instruction aligns with program learning outcomes, accreditation standards, and current veterinary medical practices.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with primary duties providing services in a clinical (public or private) setting.

Experience:

  • Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning commission's publication on Determining Qualified Faculty and provide leadership in academic discipline and/or degree program.
  • Programs with discipline-specific external accreditation may have more stringent training and experience requirements.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Registered DVM in Oklahoma

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Teaching Competence - Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High degree of initiative to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Communication skills - Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills - Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and internet, and learning management systems.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience with public speaking (CE presentations, new employee training, etc.)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintain syllabus, assignments, and exams as necessary (in Canvas and paper documents).
  2. Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  3. Maintain accurate records of students' attendance and progress and provide them to administration in accordance with established institutional policies and procedures.
  4. Participate in student retention and persistence efforts.
  5. Support the mission of the program, division, and college.
  6. Foster a safe and effective teaching and learning environment.
  7. Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
  8. Maintain a presence in the online classroom (virtual or hybrid courses).
  9. Completes all mandatory University training.
  10. Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in an office environment with a limited amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to ensure course delivery. Instructional time for program courses is scheduled M-Th between the hours of 9a-4p, but some nights and weekends may be required for development of course content, grading, etc...

Physical Requirements:

  • Other than those physical/mental requirements included within the essential functions, this position: Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
