Project Summary

Nimble Consulting Inc. co-leads the organizational change management for the GIS transformation at the largest investor-owned utility in the U.S. The project centers on a strategic partnership between the client, the Systems Integrator and Nimble Consulting. Nimble acts as a client representative due to its 15 years of trust and experience at this utility.

Start date: xxx 2026  - xxx 2027

Training strategy is being developed by the team on the ground. Training delivery will be a concentrated period of time, e.g. over a 4-6 week period for targeted audiences. Prior to training end users, you will be part of a “train-the-trainer" cohort to observe and receive the training. Training delivery will cover editor users and viewer users, a combination of in-person a remote delivery options. We will need people who can deliver in person as a requirement for flexibility.

If you are an experienced technical trainer willing to learn the content to deliver the training, we can support you in this role. If you have GIS experience (that is a benefit), but not necessary.

Job Summary: GIS Technical Trainer (Contractor role)

  1. You are the GIS training instructor for a variety of courses within the GIS curriculum. Each course focuses on different GIS tools & applications as well as a variety of user groups. The courses are a mix of instructor-led and virtual instructor-led.
  2. You teach courses in their entirety which can include theory, live demos of tasks and workflows in the applications by the instructor, and assisting students during hands-on exercises.
  3. You are an experienced trainer who will use their unique experience combined with train-the-trainer training to deliver engaging, effective, and consistent experiences for the students.
  4. You will teach at client locations throughout Northern California (Bay Area and beyond) for instructor-led courses and remotely for virtual instructor-led courses.

This is a full-time position. You must be on site in Northern California when teaching instructor-led courses. Travel to client locations is required as needed.

When not teaching, you will be preparing for upcoming sessions, performing admin tasks, maintaining training supplies/equipment, and meeting with training team.

To be considered for opportunities, you:

  • Are available for onsite classroom delivery, including pre-session preparation and post-session tasks and clean up. If not local, you are willing to travel as needed within Northern California, including overnight stays when required by training schedules.
  • Have strong client references for consideration
  • Are technology forward. You are proficient in using collaboration tools to teach virtual instructor-led trainings such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex.

Responsibilities:

  • Quickly come up to speed on Nimble Consulting team scope and roles, client scope and work completed to date.
  • Quickly learn the client GIS landscape, key workflows, and user groups.
  • Understand the training audience by user persona, job responsibilities in GIS and permissions in GIS associated with their role
  • Quickly learn the workflow of multiple user groups through self-study, participating in train-the trainer sessions, and participating in team discussions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, organizational change management, systems thinking, geography or a related field.
  • Experience with large-scale ERP/technology rollouts. Preference to Utility sector experience.
  • Have experience in using Esri ArcMap or Esri ArcGIS Pro or Esri ArcGIS Online (or similar applications)
  • You have at least 10 years of experience delivering technical training as an independent consultant.
  • You are an experienced technical trainer who can deliver training effectively, demonstrated by:
    • Familiarity with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office and mobile devices such as iPhone/iPad & ruggedized laptops.
    • High feedback scores and adoption metrics
  • Demonstrated experience supporting participants during training session with:
    • Process/workflow questions
    • Device-related questions (Ex: login issues, connectivity issues)
  • You are comfortable with leading projects on your own with minimal /no guidance.
  • You are comfortable teaching courses in a manner that is consistent with other trainers
  • Team player and able to receive and apply feedback from users quickly with a communication that it has/has not been addressed
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Technically proficient: proficient with Microsoft Office, screen capture & recording tools,

Preference given to those who:

  • Worked within the utility sector (Gas, Electric, etc.)
  • Worked with Esri Utility Network, ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online
  • S-Corp, C-Corp, LLP or have a Business License
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Addie training methodology
  • Preferably, you have worked with a range of commercial clients.
