Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Distance Education & Technology Integration department on the Dahlonega campus. The Online Student Peer Mentor supports online students by serving as a knowledgeable and encouraging peer resource. Responsibilities include assisting students with navigating university systems, promoting student engagement and success, answering general questions about online learning, and connecting students with campus resources when needed. Peer mentors may assist with outreach efforts, virtual events, and communication initiatives to help foster a positive online student experience. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work independently in a virtual environment. Preference may be given to students with experience taking online courses at UNG.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a peer resource for online students by answering general questions about university processes and online learning.
  • Assist students with navigating university systems such as email, D2L/GoVIEW, Banner, and student accounts.
  • Promote student engagement and success through regular communication and outreach efforts.
  • Provide encouragement and support to students adjusting to online learning environments.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus departments and resources, including advising, tutoring, financial aid, IT support, and counseling services.
  • Assist with virtual events, orientations, workshops, and online student success initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Online Student Success team on projects and student outreach campaigns.
  • Track student interactions and complete assigned administrative tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of online learning platforms and university technology systems such as D2L/GoVIEW, Banner, and student email.
  • Familiarity with university resources and student support services.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Dependability, professionalism, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a virtual environment.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
