OVERVIEW

Barton Malow is seeking a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Manager to join our growing team in Nashville, TN. At Barton Malow, VDC is more than technology-it's a strategic approach that integrates 3D modeling and innovative tools throughout the project lifecycle to improve performance, collaboration, and outcomes. In this role, you will lead the delivery of VDC services across complex projects and pursuits, partnering closely with project teams, designers, and clients to enhance quality, optimize schedule and cost, and drive constructability. This position is ideal for a forward-thinking construction technology leader who is passionate about advancing VDC processes, mentoring teams, and shaping how technology-enabled construction is delivered in the Central Florida market.


POSITION SUMMARY

The VDC Manager oversees VDC efforts related to projects, pursuits, and training and/or initiatives to ensure the VDC services are implemented with quality and managed within budget and schedule. This position may have some project responsibilities and is responsible for directing and mentoring VDC and project staff. This position requires business management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent communication and client service skills. This role must have a strong presence and eagerness to lead projects or initiatives with VDC technology. The VDC Manager demonstrates a desire and aptitude to improve VDC tools and processes using experience, and technical and project knowledge.

 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates and delivers formal and informal training: e-learning, instructor-led and webinar, as required; Trains and supports VDC team members and project teams in every area of VDC, including hosting Company webinars for VDC company learning opportunities as well as leading speaking engagements at various industry events and conferences; Leads software testing for new releases of existing and new software
Independently creates quality BIM Execution Plans (including 013700 and AE BIM Guidelines); Reviews BIM Execution Plans created by VDC Engineers and provides necessary mentoring and support; Produces a BIM Execution Plan (BIMxP), as required
Delivers and oversees implementation of VDC services on various projects and/or pursuits; Suggests improvements or differentiators and guides teams on projects and/or pursuits; Understands cost & schedule requirements in partnership with project controls for VDC related tasks; Creates and manages budget related to VDC delivered services on a project; Guides and trains other VDC members in budgeting VDC services; Understands minimal VDC requirements; Utilizes PowerBI Data Dashboards.
Executes, manages, and / or assists in compliance with Standard Practices during preconstruction and/or project delivery with processes such as, but not limited to, the following: Autodesk Forma 5D Model, Model based quantity take-off, collaborative 2D/3D constructability reviews, Site Logistics, planning, 4D Scheduling, 3D Coordination including owner equipment coordination process , Reality Capture,  augmented/virtual reality, 7D facility management, Digital Twin setup, closeout best practices, and the punchlist process; General and / or Expert knowledge of Barton Malow VDC Software and Processes; Assists Build Plans and sequences
Participates in Project Kick-off/Start-up meetings; Manages basic owner and project team issues/concerns and handles communications with lower levels of owner organization, issues with subcontractors, and relationships and communication with architect/engineers, clients and consultants; Understands each project's unique change management requirements and RFI processes; ensures VDC processes are set up and executed in alignment with them; Creates VDC services change management /quote information receiving assistance for initial assumptions
Seeks repeat and new business sales, including assisting with the response to RFPs and preparation of presentations; Identifies and implements opportunities for fee enhancements, including billing rates, self-perform opportunities, and additional scope; Participates in preparation of preselling efforts with prospective and current clients


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • 8+ Years of commercial construction experience with directly related VDC responsibilities
  • Ability to travel throughout greater Nashville area to project sites as needed
