Opportunity:


Virtual Service Operations is seeking a hands-on Data Center Deployment Technician to support day-to-day data center operations, fiber infrastructure, hardware troubleshooting, and deployment activities. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced data center environment and have experience with fiber optic cabling, structured cabling systems, hardware diagnostics, and ticket-driven support. The successful candidate will provide onsite technical support, perform fiber testing and tracing, troubleshoot hardware and connectivity issues, and execute data center work orders through Jira and other ticketing systems. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential.


This position requires frequent travel.


The schedule is flexible with at least one week on site at a time. Schedule is subject to change.


Basic training will be provided for all new hires.


Responsibilities:


Fiber Infrastructure & Cabling:

  • Perform fiber optic cable tracing, testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain fiber optic connections using industry best practices.
  • Identify and resolve connectivity issues within structured cabling environments.
  • Validate cable labeling, routing, and documentation standards.
  • Support installation, moves, adds, and changes for fiber and copper infrastructure.
  • Use fiber testing equipment and related tools to verify circuit integrity.
  • Perform fill and purge operations on liquid cooling systems and support commissioning and validation of liquid-cooled infrastructure.


Hardware Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware-related issues involving servers, network devices, cables, ports, transceivers, and NICs.
  • Troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity problems and coordinate with remote engineering teams when needed.
  • Replace failed components and perform basic break/fix activities.
  • Provide hands-and-eyes support for remote operations, deployment, and engineering teams.
  • Document troubleshooting results, findings, and corrective actions.


Deployment & Data Center Operations:

  • Perform rack and stack activities for servers, network equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Assist with equipment installations, decommissions, migrations, and inventory validation.
  • Verify equipment placement, cabling, and connectivity according to site standards.
  • Support asset tracking and inventory management activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work and site changes.
  • Verify power paths, labeling, and connectivity during deployment and commissioning.


Ticket & Work Order Management:

  • Execute data center work orders and service requests through Jira and other ticketing platforms.
  • Provide timely updates, documentation, and resolution notes for assigned tickets.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks in accordance with operational requirements and service-level expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, project teams, and operations personnel regarding ticket status and issue resolution.



Requirements:
  • Experience working in a data center, telecommunications, or structured cabling environment.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic testing, cleaning, troubleshooting, and tracing.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable management best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware components, including ports, cables, transceivers, and network interface cards (NICs).
  • Experience working with Jira, ServiceNow, or similar ticketing systems.
  • Ability to read and follow technical documentation, work instructions, and rack elevation diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs or ramps
  • Must be able to kneel and work under desks or in confined spaces
  • Must be able to get up and down a ladder to manage overhead cables
  • Must be able and willing to travel frequently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fiber optic certification (FOA, BICSI, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting enterprise or hyperscale data center environments.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience using Fluke or similar cable testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of server and network hardware deployment processes.
  • Familiarity with liquid cooling systems.
