At Interstates, we don't just show up to work, we show up for each other. From our headquarters in Iowa to job sites across the country, we're doing award-winning electrical, controls, automation, and OT work that powers industrial facilities for clients here in the U.S. and around the world. Whether you're bending conduit, wiring panels, writing code, supporting projects, or helping things run behind the scenes, you'll be part of a crew that works hard, shares laughs, and takes pride in doing quality work. We believe in building strong teams, doing the right thing, and making a difference in the communities where we live. If you want to grow and do meaningful work, you'll feel at home here.
The VDC Team Lead is responsible for complex integrations of design and construction methodologies with Interstates projects, including data center work. This role works with little supervision alongside clients, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and manufacturing to optimize project outcomes through effective construction planning, coordination, and documentation strategies. The VDC Team Lead serves as a technical leader, helping guide project execution, constructability, and cross-functional collaboration on large and complex projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead complex projects by establishing conceptual direction, VDC execution strategies, and project schedules.
  • Manage design and coordination schedules across multiple projects, balancing priorities and setting clear milestone dates.
  • Assess resource availability and delegate tasks efficiently to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Mentor design staff by evaluating technical skills and offering targeted learning opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot design, coordination, and installation issues by collaborating with the team to implement effective solutions.
  • Build relationships with field leaders and coach on technical and project leadership best practices.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to define documentation requirements, set objectives, and establish key performance indicators.
  • Hold team members accountable to meet project goals, contractual requirements, and industry standards while overseeing their execution.
  • Leverage expertise to establish standards and best practices, while coaching others on implementation.
  • Build quality client/plant relationships that support current work and lead to large multi-discipline project opportunities, including data center projects.
  • Support data center project planning through VDC coordination, constructability reviews, and documentation strategies.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and manufacturing teams to support efficient project delivery and issue resolution.
  • Ensure project documentation aligns with construction sequencing, field installation needs, and client requirements.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the improvement and troubleshooting of VDC design tools and software.
  • Drive internal strategic initiatives through collaboration with others.
  • Lead multi-discipline projects as assigned.
  • Direct onsite 3D scanning and Trimble operation as needed.
