Job Description

AECOM’s West Region Strategic Communications Group is seeking a passionate community engagement and communications professional to join our team in the role of Community Engagement Specialist I as part of AECOM's continued commitment in helping deliver large, complex infrastructure civil engineering projects in Arizona and throughout the greater U.S. West. This is a hybrid position that will require some in-office days at our AECOM Phoenix location as well as occasional travel around the state of Arizona and other Mountain West states.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Communicating messaging effectively inside and outside the organization using proven writing and editing skills.
  • Assisting in the completion of team projects and goals.
  • Assisting in the preparation of messaging and plans/strategies then supports implementation of communications plans.
  • Assisting in the creation of content including website and social media, press releases, promotional materials, event materials, collateral, presentations, and newsletters.
  • Using organizational tools to report data from communications activities.
  • Conducting assigned community engagement and communications activities under the supervision of a task lead.
  • Drafting text for various community engagement materials such as notices, booklets, response forms, websites and social media posts and engagement reports.
  • Assisting with the development of themes, core messages and collateral for multiple audiences including local communities, statutory bodies, technical groups, and elected representatives.
  • Providing logistical support for both in-person and virtual community engagement events.
  • Undertaking basic research to support stakeholder list creation and mapping.
  • Supporting the management of stakeholder inquiries.
  • Creating surveys, polls, virtual engagement sites, comment forms, interactive activities, and other tactics that aid in collecting public feedback.
  • Analyzing results of public/stakeholder engagement and aids in the compilation of client and engagement reports.
  • Supporting with the development of case studies and presentations.
  • Performing assigned tasks in accordance with specified budget and deadlines under supervision.
  • Performing a self-check of work prior to submitting to others for review.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, urban planning, public administration, or a related field
  • 2 + years of professional experience in a communications, community engagement or stakeholder engagement position.
  • 2 + years of professional experience working on large infrastructure projects or programs.
  • Excellent writing and communications abilities
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish)
