Job description

Job Overview

Hayes Design Co. is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Field Service Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems in the field, and taking ownership of their work from start to finish.

This is not an entry-level “show up and follow directions” role. We are looking for a critical thinker who can troubleshoot issues, make sound decisions under pressure, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.

As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing commercial signage and branding elements at customer locations. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and takes pride in doing the job right the first time.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy variety in your workday, and want to be part of a company that values accountability and craftsmanship, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial signs, lighting systems, and branding elements

  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues in the field

  • Install vinyl graphics, signage components, and branding materials

  • Safely operate bucket trucks, lifts, ladders, and service vehicles

  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, and installation specifications

  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal team members

  • Maintain detailed service documentation and job reports

  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer expectations

  • Maintain clean and organized job sites, vehicles, and equipment

  • Work independently while also collaborating with project managers and installation teams

  • Think critically and solve problems quickly when unexpected field conditions arise

Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience in the sign industry, electrical work, construction, service, or related trade preferred

  • Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills required

  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions confidently in the field

  • Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently

  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment

  • Must be dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented

  • No excessive job hopping

License & DOT Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License required

  • For-Hire Driver’s License required

  • Must meet all DOT requirements

  • Must be able to pass DOT physical and drug screening

  • Clean driving record required

  • Must be insurable under company vehicle policy

Preferred Experience
  • Bucket truck or lift experience

  • Electrical troubleshooting experience

  • Vinyl application and graphics installation

  • Welding or fabrication experience

  • Crane or rigging experience

  • Sign industry experience strongly preferred

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Thinks before they act

  • Pays attention to the small details

  • Solves problems instead of creating them

  • Takes ownership of their work

  • Works with urgency and professionalism

  • Represents Hayes Design Co. with pride

  • Wants a long-term career, not just another job

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive pay based on experience

  • Overtime opportunities

  • PTO and paid holidays

  • Health and benefits package

  • Career growth opportunities

  • Company vehicle opportunities for qualified candidates
