What is video production?

Video production is the process of creating video content for various purposes such as films, commercials, online content, or corporate videos. It involves several stages including pre-production (planning, scripting, and organizing), production (filming and capturing footage), and post-production (editing, sound design, and finalizing the video). Professionals in video production work with cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and editing software to produce high-quality visual projects. The field requires both technical skills and creative vision to effectively communicate messages and stories through video.

What are the qualifications to get a video production job?

The qualifications needed to work in a video production career vary. To pursue a career in production or post-production, you may choose to earn an associate degree in digital video production followed by a postsecondary certificate or degree in a specialty such as video editing, sound editing, or camera operation. Some video production professionals learn their skills through on-the-job experience. Regardless of your degree, employers require a portfolio of successful work, which may be part of your student coursework.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a video production specialist, and why are they important?

To excel in video production, you need proficiency in camera operation, lighting, editing, and storytelling, often supported by a degree in film, media, or communications. Mastery of editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and familiarity with audio equipment are typically required. Strong creativity, attention to detail, and effective collaboration skills make someone stand out in this field. These abilities ensure the creation of high-quality, engaging content that meets client or audience expectations and project deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in video production, and how can they be managed on the job?

Professionals in video production often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, last-minute script changes, and technical issues with equipment or software. Managing these obstacles requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and clear communication with team members, including directors, editors, and clients. Developing contingency plans, maintaining up-to-date equipment, and regularly reviewing project timelines can help ensure smooth production workflows. Building strong relationships with your team and fostering a collaborative environment also support quick problem-solving and project success.

Job description

Marketing & Communications Manager

About the Role

Are you a hands-on marketing and communications professional who can set strategy and execute it yourself? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to serve as the sole functional owner of our brand, digital presence, and organizational voice. Youโ€™ll set the strategic direction for marketing and communications while personally carrying out the day-to-day work โ€” designing graphics, managing social media, updating the website, drafting executive messaging, and coordinating community events. If youโ€™re energized by mission-driven work and want to shape how a community health center shows up in the world, this is your role.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Strategy & Brand Leadership

  • Set and own Thundermistโ€™s marketing and communications strategy, aligned to organizational priorities and community health mission
  • Develop and maintain the annual marketing/communications plan with measurable goals, timelines, and success metrics
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership on brand positioning, messaging, and reputational matters
  • Maintain Thundermistโ€™s branding guidelines, stylebook, photo library, and intranet (SharePoint) as the authoritative sources for organizational identity
  • Draft executive remarks, organizational announcements, and internal messaging for key organizational moments
  • Support internal communications and employee engagement across departments, in partnership with HR and executive leadership

Digital, Design & Content

  • Direct social media strategy and execution across all Thundermist channels, including content calendar, community engagement, and performance measurement
  • Manage graphic design, video, and photo content production, ensuring brand consistency and quality
  • Manage Thundermistโ€™s website and digital presence (WordPress), including content updates, landing pages, and SEO fundamentals

Community & External Relations

  • Coordinate community events and external representation opportunities that advance Thundermistโ€™s visibility and community relationships
  • Represent Thundermist professionally at community coalitions, partner events, and public forums as appropriate
What Weโ€™re Looking For

Youโ€™re equal parts strategist and doer โ€” comfortable presenting a brand plan to the executive team in the morning and designing an Instagram carousel in the afternoon. You work independently, manage competing priorities across departments, and bring strong creative instincts grounded in data. You care about community health and want your work to mean something.

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field โ€” or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of progressive marketing/communications experience with demonstrated experience developing and owning a strategic plan
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video production; experienced with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and WordPress
  • Proficient with social media management (Meta Business Suite) and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp)
  • Working knowledge of web analytics and SEO tools including Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, and Google Ads
  • Familiarity with AI tools and strong project management skills across multiple departments and stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Preferred:

  • Healthcare, community health center, or FQHC experience
  • Experience with media relations, press releases, and reputational/crisis communications โ€” or an interest in growing these skills
Compensation

$70,470 โ€“ $105,706 annually | Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule & Locations

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), benefit-eligible hybrid role โ€” three days on-site at a Thundermist location, remaining days remote. Availability for evenings and weekends is required as needed to support community events and organizational communications needs. Occasional travel between Thundermist sites and to community events.

Benefits at Thundermist Health Center

Full-Time Employees Working 40+ Hours/Week

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance ($75,000) and Long-Term Disability โ€” at no cost
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Health FSA up to $3,400 / Dependent Care FSA up to $7,500)
  • Retirement Plan with 1:1 employer match up to 4%
  • Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, and Hospital Indemnity
  • Wellness Reimbursement up to $200/year
  • PTO starting at 22 days, increasing with tenure, plus 6 paid holidays
Work Environment
  • Hybrid role: three days on-site at a Thundermist location, remaining days remote
  • Standard office environment with moderate computer use
  • Occasional travel to Thundermist sites and community events
Our Values

Everything we do at Thundermist is guided by five core values: Integrity, Innovation, Excellence, Community, and Caring. If those resonate with you, youโ€™ll feel at home here.
