Job description

Baystate Health

Vice President, Surgical Services

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Surgical Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all surgical services across the Baystate Health (BH) enterprise. This executive is responsible for driving growth initiatives, ensuring clinical excellence, and delivering on BH's commitment to a higher state of providing care.

The Vice President of Surgical Services oversees the comprehensive administration of surgical services, which includes strategic planning, budgeting, human resource management, quality improvement, policy development, and the coordination and expansion of clinical programs. This role requires close collaboration with surgeons and BH administrators to maintain alignment and foster strong partnerships across the system. The Vice President will guide long-term strategic planning, financial forecasting, and workforce recruitment and retention efforts, while ensuring surgical services consistently meets all established regulatory compliance and standards. Furthermore, they will proactively identify opportunities for improvement and develop actionable solutions to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness across all sites.

This executive leader plays a critical role in shaping the vision for surgical services at BH and ensures there is a unified approach between hospitals and medical staff. Through strong leadership and collaboration, the Vice President of Surgical Services will help advance BH's mission to improve the health of the communities it serves - every day - with quality, compassion and innovation.

Baystate Health (BH) is a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system serving over 1 million people throughout western New England. With roots dating to the founding of Springfield Hospital in 1883, Baystate Health has been providing high-quality and compassionate healthcare in the Pioneer Valley for more than 140 years. Facilities and services include:

  • Baystate Medical Center: a teaching hospital, and the region's only level 1 trauma center
  • Baystate Children's Hospital: the region's only accredited, full-service children's hospital
  • Three community hospitals
  • A network of 50 medical practices
  • Home care and hospice services
  • Comprehensive regional laboratory and diagnostic services

As an integrated academic health system, the advancement of knowledge is a major component of Baystate's mission. Serving as the regional campus of the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, the organization educates and trains current and future caregivers - preparing much of the region's healthcare workforce to meet patients' needs for years to come.

The ideal candidate has progressive leadership experience in Surgical Services, with a Nursing degree preferred (not required). Interested leaders should submit a CV to this posting.
