About the role:

At Vantage, the VP, Underwriting - Financial Institutions is a critical member of our Financial Institutions team. This role is responsible for building and underwriting a diverse profitable book of new and renewal Financial Institutions business according to assigned authority level and established guidelines. The ideal candidate for this position possesses extensive knowledge of complex financial institutions risks, strong leadership abilities and a proven track record of success in driving profitable growth. This role reports to the SVP Head of Financial Institutions and is a hybrid opportunity based in proximity to one of Vantage’s office locations. Preferred offices are New York City and Chicago.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $220,000 and $275,000. The actual base salary for the position may be higher, commensurate with the candidate's experience. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Review submissions to ensure alignment with risk appetite and business strategy. 
  • Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key brokers and wholesalers nationwide.
  • Generate new business by leveraging and cultivating new and existing broker/client relationships to develop innovative ways to deploy Financial Institutions products and solutions. 
  • Analyze complex risks and unusual transaction structures thoroughly and effectively. 
  • Perform underwriting activities associated with managing all underwriting transactions, service standards, compliance rules, and documentation. 
  • Demonstrate a customer service mindset by proactively engaging internal and external contacts. 
  • Collaborate and correspond with internal and external contacts to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations. 
  • Interact directly with various business partners and internal departments. 
  • Meet departmental service standards in place for each process. 
  • Mentoring and coaching junior underwriters both technically and professionally.  

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline required or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of Financial Institutions Underwriting experience preferred with demonstrated knowledge and skills to support leadership in scaling a profitable portfolio. 
  • Established network of broker relationships and strong reputation within the Financial Institutions network.
  • Deep Financial Institutions underwriting and product acuity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to process and adapt to change in a rapid growth and data-driven environment. 
  • Willingness to travel (up to 25%).
