Leads and develops an accounting management team and direct supervision of Controllers, technical training, driving process improvement, standardization, and data-informed operations across the department. Partners with the SVP of Financial Operations on strategic and departmental direction, and supports the Senior Leadership Team, Community Managers, community association boards, community committees, and developer clients on accounting-related projects and concerns.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Partners with management - ensuring effective management of AAM, LLC's community financial reporting and accounting services, contributing to strategic planning, and supporting executive leadership in setting and advancing departmental direction and priorities.
  • Leads a highly skilled, accounting team focused on achieving organizational goals - hiring, onboarding, training, and developing team members to grow capability and improve outcomes.
  • Onboards new associations' financials, making sure their accounting is set up smoothly and correctly for complex communities.
  • Organizes team schedules, staffing plans, and workload assignments; uses metrics to monitor portfolio distribution and ensure team members are neither overwhelmed nor under-utilized.
  • Delegates assignments effectively across Controllers and direct reports, holding team members accountable to performance expectations and departmental goals.

  • Conducts accounting management team meetings with the Controllers and fosters a positive, accountable team environment.
  • Managed a specialized portfolio of complex HOA accounts, stepping in to untangle deep-rooted financial issues and creating clear resolution roadmaps that allowed the team to take back over with confidence.
  • Assists SVP of Financial Operations in maintaining internal controls applicable to AAM SSAE-18 / SOC audit.

  • Supervises Accounting Department Controllers to ensure Staff Accountant responsibilities are carried out accurately and on time, and that contracted deadlines and quality financial review standards are met.
  • Completes monthly reviews of 100+ financial statements within contracted deadlines, leveraging data insights to identify departmental training gaps and process improvement opportunities.
  • Partners with Controllers on duties related to CPA firm engagements for tax return and compilation/review/audit preparation.
  • Provides guidance to association clients regarding financial statements and accounting regulations.

  • Oversees the accounting migration of association acquisitions.
  • Defines, monitors, and improves departmental metrics and KPIs; uses data and reporting to identify bottlenecks and works through direct-report Controllers to resolve them.
  • Acts as a change leader driving productivity and efficiency across accounting department functions — proactively identifies process gaps, brings forward solutions, and advances standardization and improved practices over outdated methods, ensuring productive use of company resources.
  • Ensures current department policies and procedures are documented.
  • Partners with the IT Department to implement, maintain, and improve accounting systems.
