SUMMARY: The Vice President of Engineering will lead the end-to-end engineering organization for MultiTech, an IoT technology company focused on design, development, and manufacturing of connected hardware systems. With responsibility for product development strategy, engineering execution, and scaling cross-functional teams across hardware, embedded systems, cloud platforms, and manufacturing engineering, this leader will drive efficiency, scalability, focus and operational excellence across the engineering organization. This hands-on technical leader with deep experience in IoT ecosystems, hardware-software integration, and industrial-grade hardware will align engineering with business growth, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Define and execute the engineering roadmap aligned with product strategy and company growth objectives
  • Build, lead, and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering organization (hardware, firmware, software, QA, manufacturing engineering), to include recruiting, developing and retaining talent, mentoring engineering leaders, and establishing and driving KPIs.
  • Partner with executive leadership to drive innovation, roadmap prioritization, and investment decisions, translating the Chief Product Officer's product roadmap into executable engineering strategies.
  • Implement development and governance processes to improve speed, quality, and predictability.
  • Oversee full lifecycle development of IoT products, from concept through production.
  • Drive agile and stage-gate hybrid methodologies.
  • Ensure seamless integration across hardware, embedded firmware, connectivity, and cloud platforms
  • Provide technical oversight for:
  • Edge computing architectures and embedded firmware
  • Connectivity, including Cellular (5G, 4G LTE), LoraWAN, BLE, and Wi-Fi
  • Cloud and data platforms (AWS/Azure IoT, APIs, edge-to-cloud integration)
  • Ensure security-by-design principles (device security, encryption, OTA updates, compliance)
  • Drive adoption of scalable, modular architectures for future product expansion
  • Build a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Implement best practices in design for manufacturability (DFM), reliability (DFR), and testability (DFT)
  • Collaborate with operations and manufacturing to:
  • Transition products from engineering to high-volume manufacturing
  • Optimize cost, yield, and production efficiency and scalability
  • Support contract manufacturers (CMs) and global supply chain partners
  • Ensure engineering alignment with quality systems (ISO, regulatory compliance, etc.)
  • Partner closely with Product Management for roadmap definition and prioritization and Sales & Marketing for customer requirements and solution alignment
  • Serve as a key technical voice with customers, partners, and executive stakeholders

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or related); MBA or advanced technical degree preferred
  • 12 to 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, including senior leadership roles (Director/VP level)
  • Experience in Industrial IoT (IoT), med tech devices, smart infrastructure, or connected consumer products strongly preferred
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations in high-growth or mid-market companies
  • Proven track record delivering connected hardware (IoT) products from concept to scale production
  • Deep expertise in at least two of the following:
    • Hardware design (PCB, sensors, embedded systems)
    • Firmware/software (embedded, edge, or cloud platforms)
    • Systems architecture and integration
  • Experience leading engineering teams in a manufacturing or product-based environment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • DFM/DFX principles
    • Product lifecycle management (PLM)
    • Regulatory and compliance standards (FCC, CE, UL, etc.) and cellular carrier certifications (e.g. PTCRB, GCF, and specific network operator approvals)
  • Familiarity with contract manufacturing and global supply chains preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Minimal noise.
  • Our Minnesota facility includes a manufacturing environment. Moderate noise level. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; safety glasses, hearing protection, wrist and shoe straps, and ESD smock. Loose fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted. No food is allowed in the manufacturing area. No cell phone use allowed in manufacturing area unless approved by management.
