Job Classification:

Technology - Agile, Delivery, & Product

Are you interested in building capabilities that enable the organization with innovation, speed, agility, scalability and efficiency? The Global Technology team takes great pride in our culture where digital transformation is built into our DNA! When you join our organization at Prudential, you'll unlock an exciting and impactful career - all while growing your skills and advancing your profession at one of the world's leading financial services institutions.

Your Team

As the Vice President, Metadata, Data Cataloguing and Semantic Layer, you will provide enterprise leadership for the strategy, governance, and delivery of Prudential's metadata management, business glossary, data catalogue, lineage, and semantic layer capabilities. You will partner across business, data, analytics, architecture, engineering, governance, privacy, security, and risk teams to establish trusted, reusable, and well-governed data context that improves discovery, transparency, interoperability, analytics, and AI enablement across the enterprise.

You will define and execute the roadmap for metadata and catalog capabilities, drive standards for business and technical metadata, and lead the development of semantic models that create consistent business meaning across domains, platforms, and consumption channels. This role requires a leader who combines deep understanding of enterprise data management with strong product, operating model, and stakeholder leadership to deliver measurable adoption, trust, and business value.

Location: Newark, NJ hybrid (minimum 3 days/week in office)

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Define and own the enterprise vision, strategy, and roadmap for metadata management, data catalogue, business glossary, lineage, and semantic layer capabilities aligned to Prudential's data, AI, and business priorities.
  • Lead the design and operating model for enterprise metadata standards, taxonomies, naming conventions, ownership models, and stewardship processes to improve consistency, control, and usability of data assets.
  • Oversee the implementation and adoption of enterprise data catalogue capabilities, including onboarding of critical data assets, curation of business and technical metadata, lineage transparency, search and discovery, and certification of trusted assets.
  • Establish and lead the enterprise semantic layer strategy, including common business entities, metrics, definitions, relationships, and policy-aligned logic that enables consistent reporting, analytics, self-service consumption, and AI experiences.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across data producers, consumers, architects, product teams, and governance forums to resolve metadata gaps, semantic inconsistencies, and cross-domain definition conflicts.
  • Partner with data governance, quality, privacy, security, and compliance teams to ensure metadata and catalogue capabilities support regulatory obligations, data controls, classification, retention, and responsible AI requirements.
  • Define success measures and manage execution against adoption, coverage, metadata quality, stewardship engagement, lineage completeness, semantic reuse, and platform value realization outcomes.
  • Lead, coach, and build a high-performing team of product, governance, and platform professionals while fostering strong partnership with engineering teams and domain stakeholders across the enterprise.

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant experience leading enterprise metadata, data catalogue, business glossary, lineage, semantic modeling, or data governance capabilities within a complex, highly regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of metadata frameworks, reference data, ontology or taxonomy concepts, business and technical metadata, and how semantic layers enable consistent analytics and AI consumption.
  • Demonstrated ability to define strategy, prioritize investment, and translate business needs into scalable operating models, platform capabilities, standards, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience influencing and leading across business, technology, governance, architecture, and control functions with strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and team leadership skills with a track record of driving enterprise adoption, change management, and continuous improvement.
Expertise with several of the following:
  • Metadata & Catalog Strategy: Deep knowledge of metadata management, catalogue operating models, business glossary design, stewardship workflows, and trusted asset curation practices at enterprise scale.
  • Semantic Modeling & Business Meaning: Strong understanding of semantic layers, common business entities, metric definitions, relationships, hierarchies, and reusable logic that drive consistency across reporting, analytics, and AI use cases.
  • Data Governance & Controls: Knowledge of governance principles, data ownership, classification, lineage, policy alignment, and control requirements needed to support trust, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Enterprise Delivery Leadership: Ability to lead large-scale cross-functional initiatives, manage roadmaps and dependencies, align stakeholders, and deliver value through phased implementation and adoption strategies.
  • Analytical & Systems Thinking: Ability to connect business goals, data structures, platform capabilities, and consumption patterns to identify scalable solutions and resolve complex enterprise information challenges.
  • Executive Communication & Influence: Ability to communicate complex data concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, drive decisions, and build commitment across senior leadership and delivery teams.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with enterprise metadata and catalogue platforms, semantic modeling tools, lineage capabilities, or knowledge graph technologies.
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or another highly regulated industry with strong understanding of data risk, privacy, and control expectations.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms, analytics ecosystems, and AI enablement patterns, including how metadata and semantics support trusted self-service and machine-assisted experiences.
  • Demonstrated success modernizing enterprise metadata capabilities, improving adoption, and establishing measurable governance and value realization outcomes.
