About the Company

Central Garden & Pet is seeking a senior procurement leader for a critical, time-sensitive executive hire within our Dog & Cat business unit, supporting major household brands such as Nylabone.

About the Role

The VP of Global Procurement will own the overarching procurement strategy, spearhead global sourcing initiatives, and lead high-stakes contract negotiations. This leader will inherit a small procurement team, evaluate existing capabilities, and reorganize responsibilities to align with modern corporate standards. The role requires deep global sourcing, negotiation, and manufacturing/consumer goods experience, working closely with executive leadership including the EVP, COO, and CFO.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Leadership: Own the business unit's end-to-end procurement strategy, assess the existing team (consisting of a director and two to three buyers), and drive organizational restructuring where necessary.
  • Global Sourcing: Oversee domestic and international sourcing operations with a heavy emphasis on supply chain logistics and risk management.
  • Category Management: Manage a complex direct spend portfolio across raw materials, resins/plastics, consumer product components, wheat and other ingredient inputs, and natural treats such as bully sticks.
  • High-Stakes Negotiation: Direct supplier negotiations and contract management, requiring active travel to domestic and international supplier sites.
  • Financial Oversight: Analyze and manage the explicit financial impact of procurement choices, ensuring complete transparency for executive vetting.
  • M&A Support: Participate in business-unit-level M&A matters and integration activities when relevant.

Qualifications

  • Experience Level: 8 to 10+ years of substantial procurement experience, operating at a VP level or as a Senior Director prepared for an immediate step up.
  • Industry Background: Proven track record in manufacturing and consumer goods environments. Experience within the food or pet industries is highly preferred.
  • Global Expertise: Verifiable history of genuine global procurement experience, specifically including complex supplier negotiations within regions such as China and South America.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual capabilities are strictly required to effectively navigate international negotiations and partner relationships.
  • Logistical & Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of international logistics, cross-border sourcing, and the bottom-line financial impact of purchasing decisions.

Pay range and compensation package

  • Base Salary: $180,000 to $250,000, with an ideal target around $200,000.
  • Bonus: Approximately a 20% performance bonus structure.
  • Equity: Potential for equity components, subject to board discretion.
  • Relocation: Corporate relocation assistance is available to transition the selected candidate to Neptune, NJ.

Equal Opportunity Statement

We are committed to diversity and inclusivity in our hiring practices.
