Job Title: VP, Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Payactiv’s Milpitas, CA Headquarters

Payactiv is seeking a VP, Senior Counsel who will take a lead role in building, supporting, and running the legal department by providing thoughtful legal counsel and risk mitigation strategies company-wide, including for compliance, marketing, finance, HR, sales, and product.
What you will do…
  • Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts, including service and vendor agreements, licensing agreements, independent contractor agreements, product agreements, and employment-related contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws, and internal policies.
  • Maximize use of contract management system, including streamlining contract lifecycle and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain and revise end-user terms and conditions in tandem with business and product developments.
  • Identify and analyze regulatory implications surrounding new and existing products, including license procurement where applicable.
  • Assist with and stay abreast on legislative efforts regarding earned wage access and early wage access products.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts, due diligence requests, and strategic partnership deals.
  • Assist with monitoring, enforcing, and protecting intellectual property both domestically and abroad.
  • Interface and engage with outside counsel, including on international development.
What you need…
  • J.D. degree (with at least one State Bar membership, CA strongly preferred) from an accredited law school with 4-9 years of legal experience, preferably part of which has been spent at a private law firm.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter, high motivation, and ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiating commercial technology contracts and either one or both of corporate transactions and crypto.
Experience or established interest in:
  • Multidisciplinary practice.
  • Establishing expertise quickly.
  • Working cross-functionally, including with sales, finance, engineering, infosec, marketing, product, and regulatory.
  • Utilizing AI tools safely to maximize productivity.
  • Advising FinTech companies, including payments issues and consumer banking.
  • Advising on risk mitigation strategies and regulatory risks in financial services.
