Job Description Summary:

Aviagen is looking for candidates with highly qualified expertise and leadership skills to fit into the position of Vice President of Veterinary Services. The VP of Veterinary Services must have the highest standards of professional integrity and comply with all policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.

Job Description:

The following duties will vary according to the needs of the department. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Support the management of Aviagen North America's health, monitoring, welfare, biosecurity, salmonella control Aviagen's internal flocks in the US.
  • Collaborate with Aviagen's technical teams as needed.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure optimal flock health, welfare and biosecurity practices. Meet established company metrics for GP flock performance and livability.
  • Responsible for oversight and compliance to all Animal Welfare Global standards
  • Participate in North American industry meetings and maintain involvement in domestic welfare organizations supporting our industry
  • Oversight for ongoing improvement to biosecurity programs and disease prevention. Meet established company metrics for salmonella prevention.
  • Participate in and contribute to activities and initiatives relating to chick quality improvement. Meet established company metrics for GP chick livability and customer chick quality.
  • Work with hatchery and quality assurance teams to support customer chick quality expectations. Active involvement with source flock investigations and chick quality inquiries and ongoing collaboration with QA teams.
  • Support training programs as appropriate for internal teams including veterinary, production, vaccination, hatchery and quality assurance.
  • Lead laboratory management teams and company microbiologists.
  • Oversight for clinical investigations as needed and health trials as needed.
  • Report directly to President of Aviagen North America.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • 5+ years practicing poultry veterinary medicine is required
  • Licensed to work in the United States required
  • D.V.M. degree with the ability to be licensed in multiple states

as well USDA Accreditation, Level II is desired, however not required

  • Advanced degree specializing in avian medicine and/or education in Poultry Science is desired
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Production operations are in Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma & Tennessee. Hatcheries are located in Alabama, Georgia, New York, Oklahoma, Pageland, Tennessee and Texas. Routine travel to these locations is required.
