Job Title: Construction Manager

Job Description

This role leads the delivery of complex medical construction projects from the field, ensuring they are built safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with contract requirements. The Construction Manager oversees construction sites, subcontractors, and field teams while serving as the onsite Safety Manager/Representative, coordinating closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and customers to successfully execute multiple projects in highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent construction projects, including coordinating the work of employees and subcontractors on active job sites.
  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities to ensure work meets project specifications, approved manuals, procedures, and contract documents.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and other technical documentation, and manage implementation of the designs with a strong focus on quality and safety.
  • Serve as the onsite Safety Manager/Representative, promoting a strong safety culture and integrating safety into all construction activities.
  • Create, review, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Change Orders to support project execution.
  • Perform change order estimating and assist the Project Manager in negotiating change orders with clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and monitor project schedules, including schedule updates, to ensure milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Review and process project invoices, submittals, and related documentation to support accurate and timely billing and recordkeeping.
  • Assist in managing and reviewing the progress of construction schedules, identifying potential delays and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Review weekly and monthly reports on contract status, project progress, costs, and potential changes, and communicate key issues to leadership and clients.
  • Conduct client program and progress meetings as needed, providing clear updates on schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
  • Monitor employee and subcontractor compliance with applicable safety, health, and environmental requirements on all job sites.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to verify implementation of safety, health, and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Maintain accurate project safety, health, and environmental records in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Research, recommend, and implement new site safety practices and improvements to enhance worker protection and project performance.
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees and subcontractors to reinforce safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies, codes, standards, and owner requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and customers to resolve field issues, clarify design intent, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Support construction quality management efforts, ensuring projects are constructed and documented in line with good engineering practices and quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of construction management experience on medical facility projects.
  • Proven experience managing multiple construction projects and supervising employees and subcontractors in the field.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, submittals, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Demonstrated experience with Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Change Orders, including change order estimating.
  • Working knowledge of construction technology and modern construction methods.
  • Familiarity with project and department budget processes and tools, including cost tracking and reporting.
  • Knowledge of project controls, including schedule, cost, and risk management.
  • Experience with risk assessment and risk management in construction environments.
  • Solid understanding of administrative policies, procedures, and documentation requirements on construction projects.
  • Strong conceptual planning ability to support preconstruction, phasing, and sequencing of work.
  • Effective conflict management and problem-solving skills in a field construction setting.
  • Comfort using time reporting systems and basic administrative software.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and scheduling software; experience with Primavera scheduling tools is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including 100% travel to job sites as required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, including implementation and oversight of site safety programs.
  • Experience working with or around HVAC, HVAC controls, plumbing, or electrical systems in a construction environment.
  • Experience on government installations or projects (preferred but not required).
  • Construction Quality Management for Contractors training (preferred).
  • EM 385-1-1 awareness training (preferred).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • HVAC, HVAC controls, plumbing, or electrical design-build construction projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering construction projects within medical facilities or other highly regulated environments.
  • Plumbing, HVAC, or Electrical license is a plus.
  • Familiarity with design-build project delivery methods.
  • Experience with safety roles such as Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills to lead client meetings, coordinate with Project Managers and Engineers, and guide field teams.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver safety training to employees and subcontractors.
  • Capability to analyze accident and incident reports and implement corrective actions.
  • Comfort working with modern project delivery methods and exposure to cutting-edge construction technologies.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development, including pursuing relevant certifications supported by the employer.

Work Environment

Work takes place primarily on medical and government-related construction sites, where strict adherence to safety guidelines, health and environmental regulations, and quality standards is essential. The role involves regular site walks, inspections, and direct interaction with trades, subcontractors, and project stakeholders. A truck is provided to access and move around job sites. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
