ELA Classroom Teacher Grade 3rd - 4thย 

Position Summary

The English Language Arts Teacher for grades 3 and 4 is responsible for providing engaging, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate instruction in reading, writing, grammar, and oral communicationrooted in a Catholic worldview. The teacher cultivates a classroom environment where students grow as thoughtful readers, expressive writers, and confident communicators while integrating Gospel values and the mission of the school.

Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver daily ELA lessons aligned with school standards, curriculum maps, and Catholic educational philosophy.
  • Teach foundational literacy skills, including phonics review, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension strategies, and literary analysis.
  • Guide students in the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) across multiple genres.
  • Integrate grammar, usage, spelling, and handwriting instruction into meaningful literacy experiences.
  • Use high-quality literature and informational texts to build knowledge, critical thinking, and a love for reading.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learnersremediation, enrichment, and accommodations.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative tools and provide timely, constructive feedback.

Classroom Environment

  • Create a welcoming and orderly classroom rooted in Catholic virtues and character formation.
  • Establish routines and expectations that promote respect, responsibility, and a growth mindset.
