Job description

Sr. Localization Specialist

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for an experienced professional to join the Production Application Team of the Infotainment Software Department

The Position:

The Localization Specialist would support infotainment and connected-vehicle user experiences by ensuring high-quality US English source text and by partnering with localization stakeholders to deliver consistent, reviewable, and production-ready translations across multiple languages. Additionally, the Localization Specialist would work closely with internal teams and global counterparts to manage translation workflows, clarify intent, resolve linguistic issues, and ensure quality while meeting program deadlines.

What You Will Do:
  • Own US English (en-US) source quality for infotainment UI strings and related product text, including rewriting or refining base strings to improve clarity, consistency, and localization
  • Perform language quality review and linguistic validation across translated strings, focusing on consistency, capitalization, punctuation, pluralization, terminology, and style-guide adherence
  • Execute day-to-day work in a translation management system (TMS), such as Lokalise, including preparing content for translation, validating imports/exports, and tracking completion status
  • Coordinate with internal partners and global teams to ensure translation packs are delivered on time and in the correct format
  • Triage and respond to localization issues from downstream partners and product teams, balancing urgency with quality expectations, and clearly communicating tradeoffs and risks
  • Lead or support group review sessions for time-sensitive deliverables
  • Maintain and apply terminology and style guidance (e.g., glossary, preferred phrasing, tone, and UI constraints) and ensure consistent usage across releases
  • Support localization planning by helping define priorities and realistic timelines based on volume, complexity, and available capacity
  • Travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
  • Basic Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with reviewing and improving source strings for clarity and translatability purposes
    • An ability to work with large string sets (hundreds to thousands)
    • Experience working in a TMS (e.g., Lokalise) and collaborating through structured workflows, deadlines, and issue tracking
    • An ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
    • An ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
    • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in English, linguistics, localization, technical communication, translation, or a related discipline
    • Experience localizing automotive infotainment or embedded UI products
    • Familiarity with localization artifacts and practices: character limits, UI context needs, placeholders/variables, pseudo-localization concepts, screenshot/context review, etc.
    • Experience partnering with global translation teams and resolving cross-region workflow ownership and approval questions
    • Familiarity with Jira-based request/triage workflows for localization work
    • Working knowledge of machine translation and post-editing concepts, and when human review is required, to protect quality
