Job Requirements:

The Senior Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Engineer will provide routine Building Information Modeling (BIM) administration and coordination for assigned projects, supporting the Ryan Companies project team. Responsibilities include providing models and documents, BIM technical support, and assembling 3D content. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering/Management, Architecture, or Engineering, or a 2-year degree with relevant experience. The candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in construction or design, including 2 years in a VDC or BIM-related role. Essential skills include knowledge of BIM technologies and tools, the ability to build and maintain relationships, and the capability to quickly learn additional BIM and Adobe Creative Cloud applications. The Senior VDC Engineer also assists with proposal preparation, estimating, scheduling, logistics, procurement, and conflict resolution.

Some things you can expect to do:

  • Provide models and documents necessary to complete scope as determined with VDC/BIM leadership and project teams.

  • Assemble 3D content modeled by others and models any content not provided.

  • Learn and independently maintain a productive and efficient BIM process.

  • Create and maintain clear and effective project documentation, such as meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and constraint logs.

  • Facilitate meetings for coordination of construction and design disciplines, inclusive of subcontractors and vendors, in relation to the construction model

  • Provide BIM technical support to internal project teams.

  • Provide training to project teams on utilization of BIM tools.

  • Support operations with the RFI or change order process for BIM related items.

  • Maintain working relationships with subcontractors and project teams.

  • Assume responsibility for learning the VDC processes and standards; apply them to assigned projects.

  • Create 4D schedules to coordination the construction model with the project schedule. Update 4D schedules to track progress, convey short-term activities and manage critical path milestones.

  • Leverage the construction model for staging and onsite logistics.

  • Read and comprehend construction documents and project BIM requirements and apply them to VDC processes.

  • Review shop drawings with construction model for accuracy. Coordinate with other disciplines to create a detail review utilizing virtual mockups.

  • Provide models and documents necessary to complete scope determined by VDC leadership and project teams/internal clients.

  • Incorporate design updates into project models.

  • Analyze construction documents and models, look for errors and omissions, and report as necessary.

  • Support operations with self-perform model management and layout.

  • Communicate VDC related project constraints to supervisor and project teams in a timely manner to minimize project impacts.

  • Gain exposure to cross functional workflows and process.

  • Provide training to project teams on utilization of BIM tools

  • Gain exposure to the process of aligning owner requirements, BIM execution plans, front end scopes of work, and makes sure minimum project requirements are met

  • Gain exposure to complex VDC delivery strategies and processes.

  • Gain exposure to the field layout processes.

  • Ability to solve complex problems quickly and effectively.

  • Presentation skills and the ability to teach teammates technological processes.

  • Possess a sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize workload accordingly.

  • Familiarity and comfort with current technology and applications.

  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.

  • Basic understanding of construction scheduling techniques.

  • Basic knowledge of construction estimating techniques.

  • Basic knowledge of the complete cycle of a construction project (pursuit, contractual, design-management, preconstruction, procurement, construction, quality, closeout, turnover)

  • Ability to travel as needed for project success and team training.
